Looks like a solution in search of a problem that doesn’t exist. I.e. turn you head an pay attention to your buddy.

Old fart with a stiff neck. Sounds like the perfect solution to a problem that does exists. I bought one!

I want one! I can use it to watch the DM and the rest of the dive group swim off into the distance while I concentrate on photographing an elusive fish.

But seriously, I think anything that aids situational awareness by offering a view beyond what you can see at any moment through the front of your mask can be useful.

I’ve got one

great for checking behind you if there’s a leak.
Great for using as a ‘wing mirror’ when your buddy is ‘dynamically moving around’.
Great for checking above is clear before you ascend.
Great for glancing at the surface when doing an SMB.
Great for a signalling device on the surface if needed.
Great for hooking an accessory like a GoPro or knife onto the wristband in temp hold.

these are just a few of the uses I’ve found for mine. It stays on my drysuit 24/7 and requires zero maintenance and only cost a few quid.

absolutely great little bit of dive gear and I don’t see any downsides to carrying it.

Why not spend less money and get as functional a unit without any goofy distortion.

The "goofy" distortion provides a much wider field of view. FOV or no distortion; pick one, you can't have both. I'll take the former but YMMV.

Interesting !
What is old is now New ! Exciting ! Expensive ? !
Gotta have just one more piece of junk !

A round wrist mounted underwater mirror with a very wide field of view was first introduced to the UW world of diving 44 years ago by the now defunct California company Aqua Craft (3280 Kurtz Street San Diego) on Page 10 of their 1975 catalog as the Buddy Mirror part #A 192.

The mirror never became popular with the divers of that era and it was soon dropped from the product line.

I suspect that the current product will be accepted and become very popular by the current crop of divers who already appear as a well decorated Christmas tree and need just one one useless gadget in order to make a successful dive into a mud hole.

No thanks I don't have one --and don't want one

Sam Miller, 111

@JohnnyC FYI believe it or not people dove in1975
@MAKO Spearguns Dano FYI -little history- soon to be lost

@Marie13 CE You don't need one !

I’ve never used my cutter or my backup cutter. Does this make them useless?

In fact why I bother carrying my emergency SMB I don’t know, I’ve never needed to use it, I may as well not bother with one as it seems useless.

In fact, come to think of it, I’ve never actually needed my backup reg apart from on skills dives. Probably could streamline my setup by not having one.

All this is mentioned in good humour because I know these examples are all taken to excess to prove a point.

We shouldn’t be so dismissive of other divers gear, they might have a genuine reason for carrying something specific.

My mirror came in handy the other day on a vacation dive when I used it while underwater to accurately diagnose a HP hose leak. I even successfully diagnosed the exact location of the small offending leak and didn’t have to end my dive early because of this.

When out of the water it made fixing the leak a piece of cake as I knew exactly where to go

Edit. It was a tiny oRing on the end of a small hose/ AI transmitter that was worn at the little swivel pin.
