I'm relatively new to side mount diving, but I need to buy my gear since I have an upcoming trip.

I will dive warm waters only with AL tanks (Asia, Egypt)
I'm around 80kg (176 pounds) and 177cm (5.8")
Currently only rec to get used more to side mount and then going to start with my tec path.

I am trying to decide what should I buy as my harness and BCD.
Xdeep TEC - because I can do tec diving with it when I am ready and I don't need to buy another piece of gear
Xdeep Classic - looks like a good rec option and I have seen people adding another bladder on top to do tec with it.
Apeks 25 - that's rec only but very comfortable.

I have tried TEC and Apeks.

I did my SM training in a Subgravity Diamond system. I liked it a lot. But I ended up with a Hollis Katana because I got a deal on a package. I like it, too, with some minor modifications. Both work well with Al tanks though the Katana is single bladder only (and I think the Diamond is the same but not positive.) So alternate buoyancy would have to come from a different method.

depends on the type of "tec" diving you intend to do. with allums in warm water the original stealth is a great option. if you need redundant buoyancy, you should be wearing a dry suit. if on the other hand you need more lift, i believe the new versions have more.

Heading to Bali, so deeps mainly this year. Train first with 2 cylinders, then do tech sidemount cert with 4, train all the drills with one hand properly. Next year head to Mexico to dip my toes into cave diving.

Do you think Tec would be an overkill?

I would go with the Tec.

+1 tec. Love it and allows for growth.

the wsx25 is enough for al80s and al40s in warm water for tech diving. if you plan to do cold water tec diving, look at the xdeep tec or wsx45
