As for those talking about paper being more environmentally friendly than electronic (and posting about it on an electronic message board)...surely you were being sarcastic, right? I can only assume the others just missed the sarcasm and now you're trolling for laughs.

Of course. But we  it because it is technically true.

I would argue that it is not even technically true.

If you already have a dive computer and are downloading your dives to a desktop/laptop/phone you already have, how is that worse than using paper you wouldn’t used if you don’t have a paper log.

The person making the comments clearly has a dive computer (and said so) and must also have a non-dive computer (to make their comments) so they are using both the computers AND wasting paper.

The only reason using divelog software on my laptop and desktop computers is no worse is because I already bought those laptops and desktops for other purposes. If you start with just a dive computer and a clean slate, or better yet blank stone tablet...

Really?
I can sell paper back for recycle anytime. certain plastic bottle is also recyclable. But most electronic gadgets CAN'T. It is a fact but ignored by idiot, out of sight out of mind.
Can't handle technology? How difficult it is to down load to a computer, even school kid can do that. You have exaggerated your own ability.

I think something is lost in translation here. English is not this poster’s first language and my reading of this statement is that it would be easy to download a dive computer file to a computer. My guess is that the term electronic logbook has been literally interpreted as a separate electronic device used only to record dive logs and nothing else (a book, so to speak), rather than a program or app that exists in a more general purpose electronic device or computer that is used for multiple purposes.

Periodically I bring my paper log up to date and download my dives to my laptop. That doesn't seem to be a choice in the poll.

Note: No trees were killed in posting this message, but a very large number of electrons may have been inconvenienced by being forced to travel thousands and thousands of miles...

But has anyone ever seen such a device? I certainly have not - so hard to believe that's the case here - but you never know, I suppose?

I'll ask again - what are you using to post here on Scubaboard?
We are here talking about using cable or any device to down load dive info!

So, I guess you are saying you don’t have a smartphone? Or a tablet? Or a computer? Not sure how you are posting here then???
You ought to get out from your comfort zone and start travelling in REAL world. It will be eye opening for you.
What made you think that everyone in the world would have access to smart phone, tablet and computer? Do you really believe that high speed internet is available everywhere?

Dream about 5G!!!
