I tried to start the Shearwater Desktop app on my Mac (10.12.6) and I get the above message. I tried reinstalling but I get the same.

I suspect rebooting might fix it but I can't at the moment as I'm running a long job that I don't want to kill.

Any other ideas?

Where is the data stored? Could I transfer it to my laptop as a temporary fix?

-42 error's are usually from having to many files open or the exec is located in a tmp location. If you want to see inside the app, locate the exec (program) and right-click...then click "Show Package Contents". I would not recommend messing around in the programs package contents unless you know what you are doing.

At least on my PC - Dell - you can backup the database anywhere you want. You can then uninstall and reinstall - but first you must backup your DB - under File on a PC.
I dont know where any data is located but the DB holds everything that I needed for a reinstall.
Good luck....

The database should be in /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/unity.Shearwater Research.Shearwater/

Thanks!

The file is there but I couldn't get it to work on my MacBook

I installed the latest version of Shearwater on MacBook, started it up. I tried restoring the ShearwaterDesktop.db from my desktop but came up with an empty log. I then tried closing Shearwater Desktop on the MacBook and overwriting the ShearwaterDesktop.db with the one from the desktop.

I also shutdown a bunch of apps on the desktop to see if I could run Shearwater Desktop there but no luck.

I'll have to wait until I can reboot.

If only Shearwater Cloud actually worked. :(

Shearwater Cloud has been working flawlessly lately. The only problem I've had with the iOS & Mac OS app's were when Shearwater was doing cloud maintenance. The only thing I wish for is if Shearwater iOS app and the MySSI iOS app worked together for updating my online dive log. I've got probably 25-30 dives I need to type in my SSI online dive book.

Rebooting solved my problem. I'm guessing Adobe Air somehow got hosed.

Not for me. :(

I tried it last December. I had all sort of issues with syncing and missing dives plus other weird stuff. Many syncing errors with an "error 102". I reported the problems to Shearwater and they told me they were known issues and they were working on a fix. I waited a few weeks for a fix and then gave up.

Your comments gave me new hope so I downloaded the latest version 2.4.1 (on both my Mac and my iPhone). I deleted all the dives from my Mac and synced on both ends so I had no dives showing up on the Mac or the iPhone. I then backed up my current Shearwater Desktop database and loaded into Shearwater Cloud on my Mac. It loaded all 304 dives. I then synced to the cloud which gave me no errors. When I try to sync on the iPhone I still get the "error 102" and no dives get downloaded.

That sucks....I guess I've been really lucky. Works on my Mac, iPhone, and iPad without sync problems.

I persisted. After 20-30 attempts to sync on my iPhone, it finally synced 300 out of 304 dives. I synced again and got the last 4. I was then able to add two new dives via Bluetooth on the iPhone and they successfully synced to the Mac. I'll see if the sync problems were temporary because of the large number of dives.

Sadly, I notice one bug persists. If I have Shearwater Cloud running on my Mac it no longer goes into screen saver so it never locks the screen.
