In the planning process and have few questions.
1. If arriving day prior to boarding boat in San Jose Del Cabo, where would you recommend staying for the night?
2. Recommend places to eat?
3. Thoughts on Quino El Guardian boat?
4. Any "woulda, shoulda or coulda" thoughts?

1. We stayed right in the Marina at the Tesoro Hotel. Clean and very reasonable. Good breakfast buffet included, and for an extra fee, you can get a 7 pm checkout if they are not full. It was very convenient since our boat left at 9 pm.
2. Actually had a really good meal right in front of the hotel on the corner of the marina boardwalk, can't remember the name though.....
3. Sorry never heard of them. We went on the Nautilus Explorer, and can't say enough good things about them, first rate outfitter.
4. Definitely get there a day early in case your flight cancels.

1. Second togatown's recommendation on the Tesoro.
2. If you're staying at/near the marina, definitely check out Pan di Bacco and Casasola Cafe.
3. No experiences with that boat, sorry.
4. Not exactly "woulda, shoulda or coulda", but some good pointers are:
  • Be prepared for a potential rough 24-28 hr crossing to the Revillagigedo Islands and bring some Transderm Scop patches.
  • You'll be tempted to chase the mantas/sharks/dolphins, especially the first few you see. Don't... They really will approach you on their own.
  • Have fun and take it all in!!

Hi @BAMA6977

Quino El Guardian leaves from San Jose Del Cabo. I also recently went on the Nautilus Explorer, that leaves from Cabo San Lucas. The recommendations for the Tesoro are not applicable to your trip. You could probably get better recommendations from the Quino El Guardian website. The Aggressor also leaves from San Jose Del Cabo and has information on their website. Personally, I would arrive early to make sure my dive gear also arrives.

I wish you the best of luck on your liveaboard, the Revillagigedos are absolutely fantastic. In May, I dived my full 7mm with a 5/3 mm hooded vest, I was one on the few divers who was not cold. 5 species of shark, dolphins, mantas, mantas, mantas, the Boilier at San Benedicto is incredible.

IIRC (it was several years ago) there was a Best Western very close to the marina that we stayed at. It was maybe a 5 minute walk to the marina with our gear (a roller bag was very handy). As for restaurants, there was a lot to choose from at the marina.

I have lots of insights on all the points, feel free to ping me up on WhatsApp +372 55 30417 or Facebook: Jevgenia Vannari

Hey! My partner works on the Quino and I have another friend that has an Airbnb in the marina. Send me a message with your email and I'll see if he can contact you. Also what specifically would you like to know? The Quino has the reputation for being one of the more sociable, fun boats by the way and Socorro is breathtaking!

We are taking a different boat (Rocio del Mar) for an upcoming trip from San Jose del Cabo, so just did some of the same research

Our boat's web-site had a list of 8 "recommended" hotels. From their list, there is 1 close to the marina, a few in the "arts district" (cheaper) and a few large, all-inclusive beachfront resorts.

Here is the list from the Quino el Guardian's web-site. Interestingly, these are the exact same hotels as those listed on the Rocio web-site, in the exact same order::
Hotel Recommendations - Quino el Guardian Liveaboard

My quick summary:
- Marisol - low cost, fantastic TA reviews, small/homey, 1 block off beach
- Bel Air (renamed the Reflect Krystal Grand) - large beachside resort
- Tropicana - low cost, arts district
- Barcelo Grand Faro - large beachside resort
- Hotel el Ganzo - right at marina, but $$$$$
- El Elcanto - low cost, arts district, good reviews
- Cabo Azul - larger beachside resort
- Hotel Posada - low cost, but inconsistent reviews

We chose the Tropicana (recommended by both boats) for the one pre-trip night we are staying in SJDC. It is located in the touristy arts district.....on Thursday nights in the SJDC arts district, there is something called the Artwalk...a sort of art-oriented tourist street party. We happen to be staying there on a Thursday night, so thought this would be a little more fun than a marina hotel. Tripadvisor had good reviews, so we went with it.

Art Walk

The easiest option recommended by both the Rocio and your boat is the Hotel el Ganzo....which is right across the street from the marina. But $$$$$....maybe you can find better rates, but for the time we are going, it was something like $500 for a 2 person room.....but I do think both boats get you a 10% discount if you mention the boat's name when booking.

The Tropicana for the same period is $120 for 2 people....:)

Hope this helps.

Chris
