Never used a shearwater computer so I have no experience with it but in my limited (5) dives I've used a Scubapro G2 with integrated air and have been very happy with it. I'm barely scratching the surface in terms of capabilities as it can do trimix, CCR, multigas, sidemount, deco, and a whole host of other things that I am not qualified to discuss. For my use I have used the depth, stopwatch, integrated air, remaining bottom time calculator, ascent rate alarm, compass, and surface interval calculations and I am extremely happy with it. Again, this is the only computer I have used and it seems like it has everything I could ever need in a computer, but I have no experience beyond rec diving.

Although a Shearwater user (Petrel 1), I'll try to answer. Some of my dive buddies use those :

Heinrich Weikamp OSTC

Seawooch (Ukrainian clone of the former)

Freedom

There was a story about a guy that didn't worship Shearwater but I'm pretty sure that's just an Urban myth......lol.

i should add i use a aqualung i300 and it works OK but im looking to upgrade to a led in the future up here in canada we do alot of low visibility dives

Many years ago I saw one of the early LED computers in a Cenote in Mexico and how easy it was to read compared to mine..........very soon after I bought a Shearwater.

Comparing an entry level computer to a Perdix or Teric? Not even in the same ballpark! :O

People who I know don’t like Shearwater go for Suunto. The Eon Core seems to be pretty popular.

If I didn't get the Shearwater I would probably get the Garmin Descent with GPS. It is a pretty cool feature.

Oh and wrist heart rate

no its not about comparing one for the other obviously a 1000 dollar cpu is going to do more then a 300 cpu .i dont think i will ever need the functions of a cpu like a shearwater but i have not seen any entry level or mid range that are led ,so curious what people are using other than shearwater ps i never liked APPLE products either never was a follower

Actually, of all the differences between dive computers out there, computing power is probably the least of them. I'm pretty sure that the most expensive dive computer and the cheapest dive computer are both way overpowered for the relatively simple (in computer terms) math that they need to do in running a preferred algorithm.

Much more important are things like display, power systems, durability, customer support, etc...
