I ordered the Faber steel tank FX71DVB shown in the table below. The specifications indicate 24.7 lbs as the weight, but I get 31 lbs when I weigh the tank. I assume the valve and boot may add another 2 lbs or so, but over 6 lbs seemed a bit much. The tank seems to be empty. I did get a small hiss that stopped abruptly as I fully opened the value. Could there still be more air in the tank somehow, another valve? Any other explanations for the extra weight? For a second I thought maybe my LDS gave me the 80 cu ft. instead, but I have confirmed the correct diameter and a "71" is stamped into the top of the tank.

Thanks,

Note
"weights are nominal"
"...weights does not include valve or boot".

In other words, take off the valve and boot and the tank should weigh somewhere around 24.7#. It isn't an item that can be made to exactly the same weight each time it is produced.

I don't know how they are machined, but if it's a computer aided process, I'm not sure I understand how a large variance could occur.

@certainmisuse they're pressed not really machined so there is variation. Valves are around 2lbs depending on the valve, boot is probably another pound or so. If it's painted gray, it will have extra weight from the paint as well.

Curious in that choice of tank, but that's another discussion.

I don't know how much off they generally should be but I have a feeling none of my tank is exactly the weight stamped on the tank neck.
I even have an old 70's tank which says 12.4kg on the neck and the real weight without boot and valve seems to be around 14kg.
So I generally don't believe the manufacturer specs unless personally weighting the actual tank in question.
Maybe it is just people copy pasteing the weight info around and thus the data sheets don't reflect the real product at allo_O

@almostDIR the chart that the OP posted is published by Faber themselves, but again, they're nominal weights. The pressing process is variable in any industry. Unsure how accurate the scale is that @certainmisuse used, but at least 3 of the 6lbs is accounted for in the valve and boot.

It is indeed painted, good call. The tank choice is unusual indeed, intended for very shallow shore diving with someone with a bad back. The last part is why all the fuss over 3 lbs

Also good call, but we did and my wife is all over that one and it checked out!
That's funny because if we were weighing it at my house Mrs. Flush would say that the scale is absolutely wrong.
