Hello all, I am 22 from Kansas and I recently received my bachelors degree in business. I really have no aspirations of having a desk job for ten years just to move up into another desk job I eventually want to open up my own business so that's the long term plan. I do want to serve my country now though and I really want to become a Navy diver so I was hoping there were some ex divers on here that could help take me in the right direction and get me to training for an opportunity to become a diver. My dad is 20 years retired ex navy and he has told me not to listen to recruiters because they just want my signature, so I am trying to find out the best route to diver school without having to go through a 4 year service with a "better shot" to get in next time. Also if I can't get into dive school I would like to use my degree for another job in the Navy. Thanks.

Are you asking about becoming an enlisted working Navy Diver (ND rating) or a diving officer? Diving officers don't get much in-water working time and it is generally not a great career path for career officers. Are you a recreational diver now?

There’s no short or easy way to becoming a naval diver. I hope to do it in 2 years but not in US.

My instructor for DM is an ex-Navy diver. He was on subs and apparently they need to carry divers. Thus, they were willing to give him a shot.

My guess is, though, subs an engineering degree would do more for you than a business degree. Don't know for sure.

Thanks for all the replies, I will look into the NFO I have no training in flying though will that be a problem? And I would be more interested in an enlisted working diver so I could be in the water.

No flight training necessary. They will train you after you complete OCS. And honestly after you complete your service, you stand to make a LOT more money flying than you could with any diving career. Best of both worlds my friend! I wanted to be a flyboy right out of highschool and I had the scholarship to be able to do it. But I screwed up my first semester in college and didn't think I could recover from it so I quit. Well...that and a girl....

You're talking pilot. The earlier poster was talking NFO (Naval Flight Officer). Not the same thing.

Do research on the differences, OP. One plus on NFO is a shorter service commitment.
