Most warm water destinations don't allow gloves
I have never been to a tropical destination that prohibits gloves. So far I have been diving in 10 such countries. Therefore I think it is not correct to claim this.

Bonaire National Marine Park – RULES AND REGULATIONS

6. Gloves: the use of gloves is prohibited in the BNMP. Divers who must wear gloves due to medical conditions will need to bring a doctor’s declaration, not older than 30 days, to the headquarters of the Bonaire National Marine Park at Barcadera to get a permit allowing them to use gloves.

Here's the link to the full set of rules: Rules and regulations - Stinapa Bonaire

BTW the BNMP is the entire shore out to 200 meteres deep.

"Most warm water destinations don't allow gloves" is simply way too broad an assertion to be correct. How about: Many coral reef destinations where the diving is done within a marine park prohibit gloves.

Given that all my diving is warm water. My experiences are thus:

I used the 3mm Aqualung gloves for about 4 years. They are nice because they are thin and easy to put on and remove while wet.

However they do have a short life, I would go through about 2 pairs a year because the finger tips would wear out (so good for about 50 dives)

More recently I moved to work gloves I prefer ones with a man made rear and leather type palm and grip. The ones I picked up from Ace seemed fine.

Again I like mine bigger to ease putting them on and taking off when wet.

We have no such restrictions on gloves here and I've seen the damage done to someone hand from rocks in current from not wearing gloves.

Only 2 place (from the many places) I've been have glove restrictions and I've kept mine in my pocket so that if the conditions warrant I can put them on. An example might be, being next to the boat in less than clam conditions waiting for others to go up the ladder and steadying yourself off the hull that has growth on it

That is one location. It does not mean "most warm water destinations...".

My guess is that because Cozumel and Bonaire are such classic destinations for N. American divers, not to mention that they seemingly get more attention on SB than other Caribbean destinations, it's easy for us to get the impression that the marine park rules in those places are common around the world.

Gloves are also prohibited in the Caymans, see the link below:
Marine Conservation

I remember that in Roatan using gloves was not prohibited, but it was "discouraged".

@ROXANNE has been closely involved in making arrangements for trips sponsored by SB to destinations all over the world, like the Invasion and Surge trips, so perhaps she could give us an idea about the use of gloves in warm-water destinations, and how frequently they are prohibited or discouraged in popular dive vacation sites?

Thailand : Surins and Similans - gloves not welcome

Egypt Red Sea. gloves nor knives welcome. However in my experience LoB operators in this area are more pragmatic. so small knives and line cutters are okay, as are gloves further south as well as on wrecks. Other people may have different experience

Indonesia RA, Komodo and Bali - gloves and small knives fine

Maldives Gloves and small knives okay

Oman (main) Gloves okay

Oman Musandam - (for those foolish enough to book the aggressor) You need gloves on the sites with current

Here is the technique I use in places where gloves are prohibited. I always wear a lycra seaskin or rash guard when diving and in situations when I am worried about injuring my hands - like diving in a current and I want to use the overgrown, furry mooring line to assist with my ascent and safety stop - I just stretch the lycra sleeve material down to cover most of my hand to use as a makeshift glove.
