I do owe him a beer! But mine was from Amazon :p and it was $12. To tell the truth I don't use it because it's too bulky for me. But if I ever dive deep then I will use it.
I have taken my own fix on 50 dives without leaks. Now the caveat, I don't dive deep, the deepest I've been is 99' and that was 19' deeper than I wanted to go. Ahhh, narcosis.
Here is my fix, I seal-a-meal my PBL/case and a wrist bungie on the "moist setting" hitting the seal button just before it starts squeezing down. Then I trim it, and seal it in another bag. I put a couple of "tear" lines so I can easily open it at the surface. I also put a felt bumper on the plb so it won't accidentally get activated at depth due to pressure (not that I go that deep but you never know). I put this whole package into a nautilus life line case and attach it to my bcd at the side waist. It has not leaked at all, the combo of 2 seal a meal bags and the nautilus pouch seem to keep it safe. It's gone on 2 week long trips and survived just fine.

Scuba divers are so creative! :clapping:

The divers were supposed to be on a drift dive. Why would the dive boat dropped anchor and sent divers down to look for them?
Apo Island is pretty small and to my knowledge only has two dive operators. But other boats from the surrounding area frequently visiting the place.
I have a feeling that the "missing divers" were from other area ie. not based on Apo Island. A lot more difficult to arrange a coordinated search from various boats around.

SMB is never enough as safety device alone. A powerful light with several hrs burn time would be very useful at night.

He's really shook up.

I doff my dive beanie to the other diver for getting right back in the water and at the same area to boot!

As for you, figure out some way to turn sea water into drinking water and carry that with you too.

Caprisun is convenient. Leakproof, convenient and caloric. Keep one or two in a pocket. You can even drink them underwater if you're thirsty or dry.

This might be the most complicated thing I've read on SB and I don't mean that as an insult.

My camera case with PLB1 in it floats.
I'm sure that's correct, but the important thing is for the PLB1 to float outside of the case - which requires the float pouch attached, and I couldn't see it in the earlier photo.

I also put the PLB1 floating cover in the case with lanyard. See, below. :)
With lanyard attached - good. Very important. I figure if lost in big waves, I still want to use my PLB even if I drop my canister - and I don't want to drop my PLB and have to find it floating in the waves so I want to grab the lanyard as I open it, but certainly don't want it to sink.

I think I'm going to go with your exact solution. I'm loving it the more I look at the other options...especially the cannisters. Yikes on the price!
Just be sure to know the inside dimensions of the cases as you shop, or the dimensions of the camera the case fits.
My ACR 2881 measures 1.6" x 1.9" x 4.5”
PLB1 quotes millimeters, but think those covert to 1.28" x 2.01" x 2.96" and most cameras are smaller than that. I'd rather see the PLB1 inside the float pouch. So be sure your PLB1 with float pouch will fit inside the case, and the case has a place for a lanyard - not broke off.

I still have a couple of Sealife DC500s with cases but I think they're too small. My old dive bud has my old DC300 and DC100; I wonder how big those are?

The smaller chose of these two is plenty big for a PLB for about $120USD. CANISTER for PLB: SCUBA Diver Emergency Locator Beacon/VHF Marine Radio. | eBay

I hope they find your body within a few days.

What a mess. I'd never recommend it.

At one time, when I was in GBR , I tried to use a soft case and noticed that the crushing pressure at 102’ depth was enough to turn on the PLB1 under water. See the red light lit up in the picture below. So you either don’t dive it to that depth with soft case or use a hard case as @Dizzi Lizzi was talking about in her post.
