Your admission of liking safety stops brings to mind something I like possibly more than the diving itself: the dive trip gestalt. It doesn't have to be a trip far from home, but just the idea of leaving the house, going somewhere to dive, a road trip or a boat ride out, camaraderie, a shared meal and a beer at the end of the day, writing in my logbook (wait, strike that last one--too close to controversial). Sometimes I think the sum of all that is more enjoyable to me than the diving itself. I suppose many people feel similarly about their leisure activities--skiing, golf, etc.

Well, they don't work with Halycon wings. :)
I sliced the crap out of my old wing to make it fit. The plate is more important to me than Halcyon products.

Define shore diving.
-You talk about 100 yd swims in heavy wetsuits
-You talk about climbing over rocks in surf
and I am with you.

Casino at Catalina. You gear up on a bench. You walk down 4 steps and you are immediately in a kelp forest. (at least used to be a kelp) You walk up the 4 steps, turn in the tanks right there, and then walk down a few blocks for a nice meal. My kind of shore dives. Easier than a boat dive and more relaxing.
whats a shore dive ;-)

Actually Phil, they DO work with H wings now. That is one of the improvements, it has a removable bracket on 11" centers that is kind of like a STA and you can sandwich the wing in between the plate and bracket then run the cam bands under the rail bars. It's pretty cool.
You can also do that with wings with slots to keep them secure for set up, and still run the cam bands through the plate if you want. It's really versatile.
