If I were looking for a BP/W setup with chest strap, quick releases and 2 cam bands, what are my options? I know Dive Rite has one in its Transplate, and Hollis has one in its Elite 2 (but not sure if it has 2 cam bands). It will be a travel rig so will be using it with aluminium plate and travel wing for warm waters. I understand the cons of chest strap and quick releases, so not looking for an opinion on that. Thanks!

Just curious, what are the pros?

The TransPack is really a "hiking harness", likely shines if you are trudging a whole bunch on land to dive. Diving, it makes little difference, and it costs a whole bunch more....

My wife and daughter dive the deluxe harness as the pivot rings which aid in "barrel chests" and other things like, in the case of my wife, being very short too. QR, well, that is an individual thing to decide upon.

I have a TransPlate harness (first one I got). I "needed" it due to major shoulder issues. Truth be told, the majority of my dives are with DSS plates using the GHA for ease of donning/doffing. Rig with the TransPack is rarely used...

I also built my own adjustable harness which I regularly use. Cost significantly less, and works like a charm.

YMMV

Can the Dive Rite harnesses work with the Hollis aluminium plate? I'm not sure if I like the cutouts on the Dive Right light plate. In general, do pieces from different manufacturers work well together?

essentially all backplates are compatible with essentially all harnesses.

the cutouts on the dive rite plate work well though I would urge you to consider getting an all stainless backplate for the type of diving you are doing unless the travel weight is truly that critical. You will want the SS plate when diving in the ocean with an al80...

Yes, we would like to stay below 50lbs. In terms of our check-in luggage. That is the current limit without incurring overweight charges on Air Canada. Currently, we are at 38 lbs. minus bcd and regulators. I suspect we would put our regulator in our carry-on when we get it.

look at the DSS kydex plates and ask @cool_hardware52 if he would sell the "package" without the harness. I much prefer the Kydex to aluminum plates and it will be lighter than the XT-Lite for travel. Should be on par if not a touch lighter than an aluminum plate with the extra advantage of being able to get the right length plate which goes a long way to the harness fitting properly *I know first hand since I dove a transplate until I got my long pattern plate*

Now. While you don't want to hear it, and I can't remember if it was brought up in the other threads, if the desire for a chest strap is based on sloped shoulders, you should look up the one piece harnesses and cross the shoulder straps behind the diver. It is a common solution to that issue.

based on that thread you started earlier though with 14lbs of lead and desire to minimize it, you should look at how much the 4lbs in your luggage is worth vs diving comfort.
