Hehe, never heard of "wank" factor. The place is definitely posh. Good place to bring non diving spouse, honeymooner, etc. Service, the bungalows and food were great when I was there in 2009. I just a bit disappointed for the lack of pelagic.

Given what I have heard about it, I can't see going there instead of Misool? (which has the "wank factor" and at the same time great diving)?

I just returned from the Maldives. My impression: Indonesia for the little stuff, if you want pelagics go to the Maldives. Manta rays, spotted eagle rays, with tip and black tip sharks, tuna, grouper,.. Sadly no whale sharks.

Wrong!

Have you been in Raja Ampat, Komodo, Nabucco, Cendrawasih Bay & Banda Sea?

Raja Ampat

Komodo

Nabucco

Cendrawasih Bay

Banda Sea

I'll be in Maldives on December 2018 to compare the pelagic intensity with those places in Indonesia that I mentioned above

Indonesia is more than Bunaken.
Your description matches with what I saw in Komodo a few weeks ago.
Add on top of that amazing corals (the kind of eye blinding orange color) and a combination of macro sites.

I would rather say : Maldives is like Komodo with dead corals, less fish variety, no small stuff, just more expensive and led by a gvt that enabled a few years ago death penalty for kids above 12 years old.

Not my kind.

You may also add Alor, Selayar, etc.on your list. :)

Add in a government fond of whipping (100+ lashes) women and girls as young as 15 for alleged premarital relations.

Oops, I forgot about Alor. When I arrived in Alor, hundreds of Alor dolphins greeted us & swam with our boat to Alor Divers resort & took a video of them with iPhone:

I haven't been to Selayar. I add it in my bucket list :D

That's why I've booked Misool for our 20th wedding anniversary!
