You replaced the third stage auction valve. Yes? Now it's time to replace or clean the first stage auction valve. That's the biggie. If it's leaking, you're losing capacity.
 
Below are the images of the 3rd stage, head cap, valve head and threaded discharge valve

I replaced the 3rd stage suction valve and I have disassembled the 1st stage for inspection, pictures...

It doesn't look terrible. Is there a buildup of carbon on that valve disk? I can't really tell by the picture.
 
No build up and the disk looks in good shape, so I am not sure. With the age of the compressor, it could probably do with a valve replacement.
 
Unless the springs are weak, there is not really a good reason to. Of course, you can't tell it's weak springs until you replace them and that solves the problem....

I could try cleaning the parts, stretch the springs a little and then test that.
 
Aren't they disc springs? I've never seen that work, but you can give it a try. Valve kits are pretty inexpensive, IIRC.
