hi all,
I recently got my open water cert and fell in love with diving. I have only logged 5 dives so far. I am looking for advice on where to go to get my scuba dive master. I am leaning towards somewhere in the Caribbean. Any advice on what country, island, or school/shop I should go to? I would like to find something decently priced and preferably including accommodations.

If you've only got 5 logged dives so far, you would be better off to spend time actually diving. There's nothing wrong with having a goal to work towards, but you need to actually get dives under your belt. How many of those logged dives are outside of your OW class?

they were all part of my OW class. I understand the requirements for rescue diver and dive master are not met and realize I will have to do a bunch of dives to meet those requirements. I have found some schools that allow unlimited "fun dives" to meet those requirements and others that offer them at a decent price. My plan is essentially a minimum 2-3 month "vacation" to complete all the dives/requirements.

I see that. I just joined the forum and am finding my way around.
Thanks

What would you do with your divemaster status once you had it? Training in the Caribbean generally prepares you to work in a similar environment. It wouldn't generalize very well to you current home territory.

Honestly.. I'm not too sure at this point. Im going to be leaving my current job soon and while I'm unemployed I want to do something fun. I may get my divemaster and then go back to work and only dive once or twice a year on vacation or I might try to work as a divemaster somewhere for some time then move on to instructor and pursue a career in scuba diving.

Im currently a helicopter pilot and was looking into getting my divemaster in antigua because they have a helicopter on the island. In a perfect world I would be able to be a part time divemaster and part time helicopter pilot.

I found an OW to divemaster course with antigua scuba school that seemed really cheap. Don't get me wrong, I like to save money, but I don't want to be jipped training that I might need. I don't want to go to that school then find out that I can't use my divemaster cert, if I decide to, because of their bad reputation (not saying they have a bad reputation but idk)

If you want to work as a divemaster, your best bet would be to do your training where you want to work.

Since you don't really have experience yet to have a good, informed opinion of where you'd want to work, you might want to spend the first part of your planned time off just going to a few different places and diving a lot. That might help you figure out if you really want to work in the diving industry, and, if so, where.

Are there any schools that would provide me with a better opportunity to work elsewhere then others?
