I have a Suunto Vyper, purchased in 2005. Many times, I have downloaded dive data since then, using the same dive computer, cables, and PC. I recently completed 15 dives from 6/19 to 6/24/17. I also had a dive in December 2016. I am using Suunto Dive Manager 3.1.0 in a Windows 7 environment. Now, the last dive the Vyper shows available for download to computer is 11/30/2015 [see attachment]. The Logbook feature shows the recent dives, which tells me the dives are in the dive computer. I have attempted to connect multiple times with the same result. I have tried using SDM5 with the same result. Does anyone have any idea why, all of a sudden, I cannot get any dive data after 11/30/2015?

I would suggest you try SubSurface (Subsurface) a try. If the data is on your computer and you're not having connection problems between the USB adapter and your computer (clean computer contacts with a Q-Tip and alcohol), this is a far superior dive log software package (IMHO of course)

I just installed Subsurface and connected the Vyper. I got worse results than even the SDM3. Even when I specified to "Force download of all dives," it only downloaded through 6/26/15, missing the 2 dives on 11/30/15. As to connection problems, I must be OK, because both Subsurface and SDM are reading the model/serial number of the Vyper, and are downloading something. I'm stumped. Any other ideas?

Your problem sounds just like the problem I was having with my Vyper Air. It got to where it would connect to the computer, but in both DM5 and Subsurface, it would show that the dives were downloading in each program, show that it was synced with my dive computer, but nothing would show up as having been downloaded. Nothing beyond a certain date would ever download. Suunto tech support had me to download a dump file to send to them from which they tried to extract the files, but all it showed was the ones that I already ahd downloaded.

After going round and round with Suunto tech support for a few months, I finally took the computer back to the dive shop I purchased it from. Fortunately for me, it was still under warranty and they actually tried to help me out. As it turned out, the firmware in the dive computer had gotten corrupted and was non-repairable. I now have a new Vyper Air Novo the distributor replaced it with.

Unfortunately, since you bought yours in '05, the warranty has long since expired. I hate it for you as I know how frustrating it can be. Hopefully, what you are experiencing is a temporary thing and will straighten itself out eventually. But honestly, and I hate to say after my experience, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

These dive computers have very little memory to store all the profile data (depth as function of time). As soon as you add new dives old ones get deleted. They are still in the log but only with summary information (duration, max depth, not profile data). Therefore, there is litte left to be downloaded. Quoting from the Subsurface FAQ:

I cannot download all my dives, only the most recent ones even though my dive computer's manual states that it records history of e.g. 999 dives.
Dive history is different than the dive profiles on the log. The history only keeps track of the total number of dives and total amount of time spent below surface. The logs, on the other hand, store the dive profile, but they have limited amount of memory to do so. The exact amount of dive profiles that can be stored on the device depend on sample interval and duration of the dives. Once the memory is full the oldest dives get overwritten with new dives. Thus we are only able to download the last 13, 30 or 199 dives.

If you have downloaded your dives to different dive logging software before they were overwritten, there is a high chance that Subsurface can import these. However, if the logs are only on your dive computer, they cannot be salvaged after being over written by new dives.

As soon as you add new dives old ones get deleted.
But this guy is experiencing the opposite: his old dives are still there, but his new dives are the ones he cannot get.
Can it be the old dives are not erasing properly, not getting overwritten, so there is no room for new dives to be recorded properly?
This was my similar problem on my iPhone 6. My deleted photos were gone, but not deleted properly to free up storage space, so iPhone kept sending me message that storage was full, even though I deleted all photos. I had to get an Apple Store re-set to free the storage space, (although that led to other problems, but anyway)
I have Suunto Vyper, so I am going to look for this while reviewing some recent dives.

First of all, my computer only shows 240 Dives, which is probably accurate as to the number of Dives I have done with this computer. So I do not think that it is a problem with the memory being used up. Further, when I look at the log book feature, I can see the most recent Dives on the computer. So, I know the Dives are there. It is only when I attempt to download them to my PC that I am unable to see the Dives to download them. Discuss.

240 dives is a lot, not all of them are still on the dive computer for sure. I know that's not your issue you describe, but I just want to explain that most dive computer won't stores 240 dives with dive profile, especially a 2005 model. You can check the manual, but I guess the computer does not store more than 50 dives.

Back to the real problem with the missing latest dives: It is either a memory problem on the dive computer as GregS explained above, so the the internal storage of the dive computer got somehow corrupted. Or the interface cable is broken and it does not transfer any dives anymore. You can check that by downloading into an empty logbook file to see if you get the same missing dives. Another reason could be a weak battery, so try to change that one.

You can try to download into a 3rd party logbook software, but you already tried Subsurface, so you probably get the same result in Diving Log 6.0, as we're using the same download library. If SDM 5, Subsurface and Diving Log can't download your dives, the problem is the dive computer or interface cable.

Intriguing notion that the cable may be the problem. As you can see from the jpeg file attached to the original post, the cable did read certain Dives and list them as available for download. It is not, however, making the most recent Dives available. Of course, it is those most recent Dives that I need to download. What are your thoughts as to whether or not a bad cable could pick up certain Dives for download and exclude other Dives for download?

If the connection to the PC is bad, it is possible that the transfer interrupts and the last dives do not download. But you would have to repeat the download a few times to see if always the same dives are missing. If the results are identical, the cable it likely not the problem. Anyways, I don't think there is a chance to download these dives if both SDM versions are not able to download them.
