Pony was my own decision. And as for attaching the octo, some things work for some people and some don't. Saying I shouldn't be carrying a pony because I'm having issues with octo holders is silly. I actually have gotten the silicone loop one to work by jamming it under the nub of the zip tie holding mouthpiece on.

Previous question about BP weight: it's 6 lbs not 5. Didn't realize I had the typo.

I'm diving AL80s for back gas and pony is an AL30.

Your plate + STA should be 12# then.

6# plate (regular size)
1# STA
5# weight insert

Ah, I didn't even count the weight of the STA itself!

I don't dive with a pony but I don't remember ever feeling lopsided diving with a stage bottle or the bailout bottle for my rebreather.

Several friends have reported the lopsided issue. The solutions were taking weight off left side or leaning oh so slightly to the right. I did the second on the first dive today and it helped.

I keep 2 to 4 pounds on a belt which I can slide left or right to control any roll.

Get new friends . It's horse-poop, to put it in a friendly way.

We dive single tanks 80s in sidemount no problem. People dive with 2 AL80 on the same side and have no problem nor "need to shift hte weight".

You dive the gear, it doesn't dive you.

No need to adjust your weight. If that was the case how in earth would cave and technical divers manage multiple tanks with changing buoyancies throughout the dive?

You are putting a lot of weight into your rig. Maybe you really need that much to sink, given your exposure suit, but you should definitely consider a steel tank – a much better solution than over stuffing the weight pockets.

I'm very surprised that the tiny bit of extra negative buoyancy of that little pony is enough to throw you off balance. I sling an AL 80 (both for CCR and with OC doubles) and I don't notice it underwater.
