Currently it is possible to time ascents by using the progression of underscore characters below the TIME label.

This is best done by choosing the start of the minute - i.e. when all the ____ vanish. Sometimes though that is not convenient. I find telling the difference between one and two underscores or two and three etc is a bit hit and miss.

Can I suggest some colour cue in addition. For example changing the letter above (i.e. one of T,I,M,E) to a different colour, maybe from cyan to white (or other contrasting colour depending on the existing title colour).

you really feel the need to time your ascents that accurately?

Well, if you have to go up 40m and you want it to take 4 minutes it is nice to have something to judge whether it is taking 3 minutes or 6. If you are deploying an SMB shallow then all the time in midwater is drift when the boat doesn't know where you are. Winding up an SMB from depth helps that but will make for rather longer deco due to the time it takes.

they have the ascent indicator.... one chevron per 3m/min ascent rate. White up to 30fpm/9mpm, yellow for 30-50/10-15, and red for 60+/16+. Keep the ascent indicator white, and you'll be somewhere at or just over 4 minutes to get up. Much more efficient than trying to math with time vs. depth when the computer already has a function on the screen to do it for you....

@_Ralph stopwatch is only available in gauge mode

Actually, available in more than only gauge mode.

did they change that? I must have an old version of the manual

either way, the ascent rate indicator is going to be more accurate than you trying to track change in depth over time, so just use the features already on the screen

Just look at your dive time. It has numbers.

Or add the timer to your main display. I have it at middle right.

Doesn't have seconds indication though.
