Weight belt was more or less the only option before but now!!!!! Wow!
Even Halcyon has various weight systems to choose! Can you imagine that 15yrs ago?

Is there a language barrier here, or are you just really dense? As has been said more than once in this thread, you'll have zero trouble finding Halcyon weight systems that are in that age-ballpark.

Was there any Halcyon weight systems back in 2000 or even earlier.

And 3Ddiver is surrounded by divers in BP/W and doubles. His gear works very well for him, so there is no need to spend money on a change.

Where we dive it seems most of the 'regulars' are in bp/w and the others in more traditional bcds. Or maybe it is just the company I keep (not 3 letter groups).

When my BC dies, I'll give a BP/wing combo a try...but not sooner...

forgot the quote

22nd and 28th Aug 2000 ie. not yet 15yrs.
I thought it was less than 10yr.
I give you that.

You're quibbling over whether it was exactly the meaningless, arbitrary period of time you picked or not? Thanks for the chuckle.

If I dive in a shop based trip through my LDS, there will be 2-3 BP/W kits. One Instructor, myself, and one guy (my buddy) whom I converted (maybe a 4th if the Instructor's wife makes the trip as a DM).... that leaves the other 30+ divers in jackets.

If I go out on a charter (usually filling seats available from out of town shops), there will be 1 or 2 conventional jackets and 15-20 BP/W rigs....

Shops here do not sell them.... why? I know not....

When I took some advanced certs here, the instructor was jubilant going over my rig with the other students. He was using a conventional jacket for the dives, but did break out his BP/W for the last dive(s).

Again, if the staff even likes them , why do they not sell them?

Its the internet....... do you expect different?

As this thread is alot about what is important about a bp/wing system...what are the key points...how should weight be used in one, etc....This DIR 3 video is relevant and free :-)
George Irvine is absolutely NOT obnoxious in this, and in many instances quotes from the PADI manual, and refers to it as a place to find great common sense ideas--very much so over the manuals of some of the tech diving agencies in the late 90's ( this was shot October 1999).
I am in the middle between Bill Mee on the left, and George on the Right ( for those that would ask :-) ).

If you want to avoid the intro, at 10 minutes in George begins his explanation about what is MOST important in a bp/wing system...and while Halcyon is used in this, what he says could be ideal for the vast majority of bp/wing mfg's. But you may find the intro is worthwhile, as it gets to the heart of many of the bp/wing and general diving common sense that we are talking about here...
At about 50 minutes in, there is a demonstration of how to configure and "fit" your harness, that is worth a watch.

***Note.....When George shows how easy it is to pull the Harness and tank off--this is a demo mentioned because of a WKPP and tech diving need to be able to take a tank off easily "IN" the water. This becomes relevant in the discussions about how some divers think they need chest straps--George explains why with correct fit and config, you don't need a chest strap....and makes a case that the bp/wing system is created for ultimate comfort in the water when using it...and that "fit and comfort" when standing in a show room, is the wrong physics to worry about.

Just after 1 hour in, there is some amazing cave footage of Wakulla.
