Lost Franklin expedition ship found in the Arctic - Politics - CBC News

One of the Franklin Expedition ships have been found bringing an end to a 170 search. Look at the video, its pretty exciting when the Canadian Prime Minister announces the results and people start cheering. Can you imagine the same reaction here in the States? What wreck would elicit that kind of reaction here?

What wreck would elicit that kind of reaction here?

Finding a prison ship with en suite accommodations for 536?

I don't know of a ship wreck that would, but a lot of air planes would, the missing flight 19 of the Avenger torpedo bombers off of Florida, Amelia Earhart's plane, missing Malaysian flight 370...

One of many reasons that we Canadians are awesome...eh :)

Didn't they find the Hunley like 10 years ago?

Yes, and at the time it did elicit a great deal of excitement. It has been the subject of several TV documentaries, one docudrama, and a couple of novels, including one about the ghosts who were capturing modern-day mariners for crew.

Another might be when Mel Fischer in 1985 announced that they had found the motherload for the Atocha. Within a year treasure was being sold on the one of the shopping channels. There have been others like the Central America but none that seem to or would generate the excitement that the Franklin expedition seems to have generated.
