Alright, so my wife and I can go anywhere in the Caribbean and we would like to go somewhere new. We've been to Antigua and the Dominican Republic so far. My wife wants a place with nice beaches and clear water, I'd like some place with inland activities that aren't touristy (no ziplines, 4wheelers, etc.), and we're both divers so a nice dive site or two would be excellent.

Is there such a place in the Caribbean?

Barbados.

Most of the islands are going to offer touristy activities. I suggest Grand Cayman. The sister island have great diving, but little else to do, IMO. Or, head to Bonaire. Beautiful diving, beaches aren't great, you can take sailboard lessons, tour the island, enjoy boat/shore diving.

Cayman Brac, Beautiful diving, beaches, rock climbing, relaxing, bicycling, kayaking, swimming, frolicking, drinking, sleeping, beautiful women, what more can you ask for. Cheers and Happy New Year. P.S. I have never had a bad day in Brac, even with a Paloma.

I'd look at Tobago. Favorite island but have only been once. Have been going to Bonaire for years now but Tobago is still my favorite when you consider whole experience. Love the birds and it is the oldest tropical rain forest preserve in the caribbean. anyway....

If you really want somewhere off the beaten path that is not "touristy" try Carriacou. No tourism influence at all.

And if you really really want someplace off the beaten path try Little Corn Island. Yemaya looks pretty nice. However there doesn't appear to be any "inland"

Parts of southern Belize might work also. Around Placencia. There's boat diving out to the reef and all the inland activities like the Mayan ruins, howler monkeys, jaguar preserve, cave tubing, all the eco-trekking etc. Probably some ziplines and ATV tours also though.

If "inland" includes water based activities try the BVI's. Especially Virgin Gorda. There's only about 3K people living there and maybe 1/2 dozen resorts total. Good diving with DiveBVI and there's an extraordinary amount of exceptional beaches. At several you're the only people there all day. Some are only accessible by boat.

It's very nautical there so inter-island excursions are pretty common - everybody gets around via fast ferry. The cruise ships dock across the channel at Tortola so except for the tourist day snorkels at the Baths it's pretty peaceful - one of those places where the chickens/goats outnumber the residents. Yet there's some first class restaurants there and a few very upscale resorts. The Rhone is the signature BVI wreck dive - accessible from there on a 2-tank morning trip.

That's next years trip! Liked the Brac (went twice) but not much to do but dive and we had a great house to stay in, real privacy! Barbados is more land based stuff but we went twice and got certified on our 2nd trip. Lots to do on island, some real history there. You are a guest on their island, we miss that cultural identity here on the Turks and Caicos. Going to Coz in 3 months.
