We live on Roatan and my wife Elly & I are both Instructors. In our opinion the basic difference between West End & West Bay is that West Bay is essentially Florida transplanted to the Bay Islands, large busy hotels, great beach but no character. If you like to stay in an all-inclusive North American style hotel that's the place for you. West End is a cool, funky dive village that consists of dive shops, bars, restaurants, boutiques & more dive shops. For West End accommodation we suggest that you check out The Mame Tree if you want to be in the center of the action, Lost Paradise a little further away but nice little cabanas, Cocolobo if you want something a little more upscale, still in your price range in the low season in August, or the Lily Pond House, a great B&B. Cocolobo & Lily Pond are in the same area just a little east of the center of the village. We have had many friends & guests stay at both & they love them, it's a safe area of town and not in the heart of the party scene, about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the village & the nice beach at Half Moon Bay. If you like to dive in small groups check out Reef Gliders or Enomis, both great shops and lower volume than a lot of the others.
