I'm a Fish!
My buddy and myself will be going to Bali (Nusa Lembongan) next month but have not decided on the dive op. We have narrowed down to Two Fish and LDC (for their competitive prices). The hotel has been booked but it can be cancelled without penalty or pay upon arrival.

We are planning to go on our own taking a blue bird taxi from the airport to Sanur and the Perama boat to the island (much cheaper) and shop around for a dive op.

My concern is, do we need to book the dives with the dive op before we arrive or can we just walk in and dive?

forget lembongan, go to amed! much nicer!
Where do you suggest i should stay to dive Amed and Tulamben?
Do we need to book in advance or we can walk in?

amed - dive with adventure divers bali. can stay there too. or stay across street on the beach at kembali beach bungalows or a number of other plwces. amed is quiet and beautiful and friendly. diving there has all the corals and fish, plus sites right off the black sand beach with pygmy seahorse and other macro like ghost pipefish, frogfish, etc. that dive shop you can look up on tripadvisor. -they will also take you 30 min north to dive the tulamben wreck if you want. i dived all over bali and amed is by far the best place above and below the water. yes you must book ahead because they are small and very popular.

No need to book the dives in advance except if you have special needs : private guide for photography (ask for Bunter as your guide @ LDC !), specific dive sites you'd like to dive (weather / lunar cycle depending + check dives needed before diving the tricky ones ...).

Just by curiosity, which accommodation have you booked ?

When I was with twofish it was booked up the whole 10days but that was in October, so hurts were turned away. However u can dive with them and not stay there. I thought the diving was excellent, plenty mola and manta, very healthy coral, good viz. macro wise not great, and tulumben was much better for this, and I have heard Amed is excellent. I did a day trip from twofish to liberty wreck.

Thanks. I have booked Widya Homestay. I have emailed LDC about my plans for next month but they did not reply when I asked about the advance booking of dives. I might just walk in.

Having only one week dive holiday makes it even harder to decide on Lembongan or Tulamben/Amed. Wonder if i got any luck to see mola-mola next month might be a bit early.

Water is still warm & the Molas are still quite shy at the moment : we spotted them a lot last week (almost everyday among the various local dive ops), including for cleaning @ Crystal Bay, Toyapakeh, Pura Ped, Buyuk & Sental. But we got only a few sightings from flying ones this week.

Mola² season is supposed to start around mid-July : water temp should start to drop soon, with more & more Molas around on a more regular basis.

But who knows :)
