diving after eyelid surgery

As time goes on, I notice my upper eyelids are getting droopier. This may call for corrective surgery at some point, as it appears possible they'll actually interfere with my vision a bit if this continues. So, if I spring for the surgery, I'm wondering if any docs can chime in on how long after such surgery it would be safe to dive? My concern would not be for the comfort of it (though comfort is good) -- I just don't want to interfere with or damage the area that's been worked on, and want to be sure it is fully healed and strong enough to emerge unscathed from the realities of diving.

You are in PA, why not wait until late fall and have all winter to heal up?

I do have a GF that was very happy with her results. I think she was diving in 6-8 weeks.

Good idea, except that I am self-employed and my slowest time is in diving season. I can't afford to take two weeks off when I have lots of work, so diving season is where I'll have to make room for it. Good to hear your friend had a good result, though.

Eyelid surgery is pure soft tissue surgery in a very well perfused area of the body. Although a plastic surgeon would be the final arbiter, for sure, I can't imagine why, absent complications, you couldn't be diving within a couple of weeks.

That's very encouraging, Lynne -- thank you. Can you think of any possible issue if I was to have a mask squeeze? I don't know that I've ever had one, but I figure that would be the time.

I had eye lid surgery done 5 years ago. I was cleared to dive once the incisions were completely healed, and no scabs, about 2-3 weeks. The best advice to follow is continuously ice and almost
flat for the first 24 hours. I had no bruising or swelling and went back to work in a couple of days.

i recently got non-incision type upper eyelid surgery which consists of 3 stitches. about how long til the swelling is gone and wht should i do to help it? thanks!
