Hey there - just got back from yet another AMAZING trip. I'll do a quick trip report on another thread, but thought I'd give feedback on the places we tried for food this trip. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions, we tried our best to put them to the test. We ran out of days before we ran out of places to eat!!

In no particular order...

Blue Angel restaurant - great service, great food, and good prices for the view and portions. Split a nachos or have an amazing chile relleno!

Chilangos Tacos - AWESOME! Pick a meat and have a seat. We tried the Al Pastor and the Pollo huaraches, plus a quesadilla. Freshly made oblong tortillas with a smear of beans, some lettuce, your meat, and then mexican cheese. Delicious and filling and CHEAP! We had four items, a soda and a beer and it was less that $10. Lots of friendly locals - look for the yellow glass counter and lots of mopeds on 30th.

Otates - not bad, but not my favorite. Maybe they have other goodies, but the pastor was not as good as El Pique or Los Seras.

Los Seras - AWESOME! Our favorite Al Pastor of the trip. Try it with cheese on a flour tortilla! So delicious. Also on 30th with lots of mopeds!!

La Perlita - Thursday for 2 for 1 lion fish. Killer coconut crusted lion fish, but we also tried the shark empanada and thought it was outrageous! It's way back in the hood and a bit hard to find, but the cabbies seemed to know where it was, and there were many taxis hanging out for a ride home. Not as cheap as other places, but good value for a 'nicer' spot for dinner.

Ernesto's Fajitas - we always have a meal here - it's a throwback from my 1980's era trips to Coz. The food is still good, and the location is exceptional. At $10+ for chicken fajitas they are clearly cashing in on the cruise ship dock, but having a beer sitting over the water is not a bad way to cap a dive day.

La Mission Parrilla - we went there for dinner when the weather was bad as it's mostly indoor. Good tacos, enchiladas and queso fundido. They also have a 'bar' that features rice, beans, cabbage, and what I think was cactus that is free with your order. You can get a simple plate of tacos and then fill up on beans and rice. Good value, good service and good grub. We went with friends and it was a nice place to hang out and chat as well.

Coconuts - I wasn't expecting much at this tourist trap, but was really surprised! Guac was great, and the fajitas were really good too! The margarita was so strong it tore my face off, and the view is hard to beat. No power/internet so no credit cards, but worth a stop if you're on the wild side!

Rolandi's - our annual last meal. Good as always and a nice upper end meal to have with friends.

We can't wait to go back and expand the list, but it's hard to eat what you loved from last time, and save time for trying new things too! I have never been anywhere that has more consistently great food than Coz! I LOVE IT!!!!

I want to try the lionfish at La Perlita. Now I know which night to go!
You won't be disappointed. The coconut lionfish at La Perlita was the gastronomic high point of my last visit to the island.

The list of great places to eat on the island keeps growing and growing! I think my list of "must do's" is up to 26 or so now!!!

...note, Coconut's has only recently become a "tourist trap". Especially since the new highway runs right up to it, and cruise ships have been taking van loads of people over there.

Back in "the day" only the selected few would venture over there. I have spent MANY lazy afternoons over there with only a couple other tables full.

The food has always been very good over there, go for the margaritas...stay for a fish burger! :D

Do you need to worry about eating the food in coz? My wife is terrified of getting montezumas revenge?

Nothing to worry about, just take some acidophilus (get a bottle at your local heath food store) daily a week or 2 before you go and each day while there and you should be good to go! Been taking it since 1997 and not 1 bout of tummy issues!

Cozumel is not like Tijuana in the 80's!! You can get a food bug anywhere, but I have eaten with impunity in Coz for many trips. The only thing that causes me any trouble is too many meals in a row with the deadly habanero green salsa - and that is entirely self inflicted!!

I guess I should go back to Coconuts on a Sunday when the pod people are not in attendance! It would be a nice quiet place to hang and sample the fish sandwich!!

Did you actually get some diving in.....? Or just spend the week eating? :D
