Thanks for the "restaurant report". Think we'll add La Perlita to our list for Thursday evening.
Coconuts may not be as quiet on sundays as all the locals are on the wild side enjoying the day.
Did you rent a car for this trip or use taxis for the most part? And how were the prices for getting around with the taxis?
Our plan this trip is not to rent a car and either walk it around town and use taxis for the places further out like el morro, la perlita, san carlos pescadaria, and hire one for an afternoon to get over to the other side for a few hours.

We walked and used taxis. It seems like everywhere you want to go, regardless of whether it's down to Mega, or back to the hood it is around 80 pesos. It does add up, but I also tip really heavy so.....

The Blue Angel arranged a cab for us to go to the wild side - it was like $25/hr and we had the sweetest guy EVER - we originally wanted three hours and we ended up doing five! It was like hanging out with family.

Phil - yes we were diving too!! See.....

Do you need to worry about eating the food in coz? My wife is terrified of getting montezumas revenge?

That is such an old, old, old problem/myth and not an issue unless you drink too much, let yourself get dehydrated, eat totally different things that you aren't used to (ie: very spicy habanero) or don't practice the same hygiene you would when eating anywhere else.

No one is going to serve you tap water or ice made from tap water either and raw vegetables as in salads will be prepared and washed properly - cooked veggies not even an issue - not even by accident because the locals don't even drink tap water.

we got to meander over to this east side with our DM
Coconuts was amazing. Really expected the tourist level food
Crevice is not one of my favorite foods, but we had it there and it was Amazing

You won't be disappointed. The coconut lionfish at La Perlita was the gastronomic high point of my last visit to the island.
And Xcalakoko is just too fun to say!

I eat everywhere I please. I can count on one hand the number of times I have been sick. It usually doesn't last any more than a day but it has occurred after dining in higher end restaurants more frequently than in the small mom and pop places. Go figure. I recently needed medical attention for a totally different issue (total hearing loss) in Cozumel and the lab report on my blood showed some kind of bug (protozea or bacteria, I don't know what); the docs said this was a normal finding for people who have been in Coz any length of time but since they were trying every possible treatment in their arsenal and decided to treat this as well. Probably too much information for your wife but GAZILLIONS of people come to Coz every year and never get sick. I would be more worried about buffet food that has been sitting out for hours and hours than what I might be served freshly prepared elsewhere.

I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure blood isn't supposed to contain bacteria or critters . . .

flots.

Well, all they did was a blood test and there was "something" they said was a local bug. Looked at the lab results: proteus 0x-19. Whatever that is.

The fishermen's cooperative restaurant serves lionfish daily: ceviche, mojo de ajo, etc. Recommended and cozy back-street place.
