That second video wasn't in the middle grounds. It was from a trip I took with some friends in south florida. Not my boat. As for varying currents and sea conditions. I understand how all this works. I'm a 100 ton boat captain. And we marked up the reef and marked up where it dropped off and anchored in the deeper area which was the sand. And as you can see the sea conditions were very lite that day. And little to no current. If you didn't like the video please stay out of the thread.

I'd much rather answer questions pertaining to the video or what I can do as far as film editing. Thanks! Stick to the topic sir

Where were you anchored into the reef, captain? Was it South Florida?

I would think that other people would assume that a video with a title of Panama City Dive Center would be from their operation. Still it seems like a strange promotional video, since it seems to show anchoring into live reef.

I'm not understanding your negative attitude, it says it's from our spearfishing team. Maybe you should spend a little less time criticizing me and move on with your life. It was from a charter me and some guys from our shop took out of marathon. Does that answer your question? Again please stick to the topic. It seems you went way out of your way to try and bash me and the operation I work for but it all is just in vain.
Have a great day

Do I agree with anchoring into coral? No.. But I wasnt the master of the vessel on that trip.
Just to clarify

Haha considering that was shot in the keys and with a different operation no it won't. I made a video for our spearfishing team. Didn't know people on the Internet would pick it apart this harshly. But thanks guys.

Anyways! Any comments on the video or what I can include next time. I like video editing and plan to get better at making more. Any comments on that would be helpful.

You can video, on your next trip, putting down and installing a permanent mooring since you plan on going there often. That way you can dive with care. The middle ground is a precarious reef system. I am glad it is out of reach for most divers as it won't support aggressive diving well.

I would definitely edit out the anchor so someone nit picky doesn't critique your anchoring.:D We can all only wish we had their skills. I can just see all the mooring balls being installed in the middle grounds. Nothing like big orange balls marking your fishing spot. The middle grounds are awesome it is both a shame and a blessing that they are so far offshore. The video brings back many good memories from the Holy Spearit. Don't let the critics get to you I definitely want to see more videos.

It shows how little you know about remote mooring. You have short buoys that don't break the surface. With GPS you don't need to be able to see moorings from a mile away. Once you're close, a person on the bow looks for the submerged mooring marker to tie on.

On one of my trips to PNG, I was on the boat doing exploratory diving in the Duke of York Islands. We put down several permanent moorings. This captain has done more to preserve the reefs in PNG than most through his work establishing permanent moorings that he allows anyone to use. It's all about preserving what we love. It doesn't take too many anchors dragging across the reef to make the corals susceptible to coral killing diseases.

When you post videos showing poor techniques, you simply cannot be surprised when people voice their angst. Damage by one damages it for all.

My point was that it was not necessary (or desirable even) to anchor in that location with those conditions. It was explained that the justification for anchoring was simply to save the operator fuel costs.

Installation of mooring bouys in the Middle Grounds by a private entity is not practical. From what I understand, there was a lot more nice coral there before years and years of anchoring on it, has pulverized most of the pretty and delicate corals.

Haha considering that was shot in the keys and with a different operation .....

Or so you say.... You upload a video with Panama City Dive Center's name on it and now claim it was in the Florida Keys! Nice try.... Who was the op? Did you report him? Down here in this part of the state, we care to know who is destroying the coral so corrective action can be taken. There is enough coral destruction due to water quality, let alone the mechanical methods.

Why did you remove the video??

I like video editing and plan to get better at making more. Any comments on that would be helpful.

Honestly.... it's very amateurish. Out of focus, unlit, and shaky.

considering panama city doesnt have much coral like that, yes it was in the keys. And it stated it was a spearfishing team from the shop. Thats all. I removed it because people kept bashing ME for a video that I didn't post on these forums. Why keep it up?
and thanks for the helpful hints. it was from a go-pro so i figured the shakyness and lighting would be an issue from the start. Im learning film editing and just enjoy making movies.

Thanks again guys for the positive AND negative feedback. its all constructive criticism really. :)

and to Dumpster diver... we had no paying customers on the boat that day meaning the operater was already shelling out a ton of money for us to go. and you can see the diver headed down with no anchor in site. Im telling you we anchored in the sand OFF of the reef.
