7mm didn't keep me toasty. Well, the first 40 min. I was fine. When I got out I had purple blotches on my skin. thought it was my suit, but then saw the red marks in the crook of my arm, and realized the purple meant I was extra cold there. My computer said 72° which means it was 74°. :cold:
Kept our record going of seeing at least one seahorse per dive. Didn't find it till the very end and it was well hidden. Octopus was very friendly... and strong!

Are you wearing a hood? For shallow water, 74 degrees and 7 mm should not be a problem?

I was comfortable yesterday in a 2/3mm with no hood; hurray for phenotypic variation. A friendly DM tickled this octopus out for a bit, first time for me to see the orange-spotted filefish at the bridge along with the usual scrawled and plane headed.

I had a beanie on. I get cold very easily too. When most every body else is in a shorty, I am still in my 2 piece 3mm..

Those are ridiculous if you are cold. You would almost surely be warmer and more comfortable with a 5 mm suit and a good hood of 5 mm. The difference is dramatic.

Sandra did a 4 hour dive at BHB a few days ago.....with a Dry suit. She can barely be in for 2 hours mid-summer, when wearing 2 wetsuits, one on top of the other. She gets cold very easily.....

While I personally HATE Dry Suits for the high drag and all the bother they represent, for diving a place like the BHB, they are the right tool for the job. Drag is pretty much irrelevant to macro divers at BHB, and with no workload in the typical motionless aspect to shooting macro, you will never generate much heat to stay warm with a wetsuit. Even the inexpensive drysuits like the Whites Fusion, would still be exponentially better than a wetsuit at the bridge. Just think of the drysuit as another piece of your camera gear :-)

yanno, ya both are right.. and if I had a better fitting wetsuit or a dry suit I'm sure I would be toasty warm. However, to critize somebody for what they chose to wear while diving is a bit childish and snobby at best. However, if you are that concerned, I will send you the info as to where you can send a check. ;)

just get a decent hood... It's like turning the AC up and leaving the windows open.

Sorry...that was not what I was thinking ( or not thinking) when I posted... I was just suggesting that practically all South florida divers will buy a wet suit, for the water temperatures we have here year round--maybe a light one in summer....BUT...BHB is really an entirely different issue....I was thinking that for many of the BHB regulars, what is good for everyone else, may not be so good.

Dan I agree and apology accepted. I was out two weeks ago in my 3mm 2 piece and did 3 dives, only getting chilled on the last one. That was open ocean and actively swimming. Different story for the bridge when slow moving is still too fast, thus my choice of for using the 7.
tis all good.
