I think it's unsafe because if he used my computer's dive log, it would be different. He may have been deeper or gone on an extra dive. OW trains you to never use a buddy's computer and I'm not a fan of just letting the more aggressive diver carry the single backup for a buddy pair.

Now, maybe I am more conservative than you and you would do it. And that's okay. Hell, my husband would do it. I'm just a very conservative diver.

Run 2 computers. Period. Rec dives i run 2 computers. Tech dives, one computer, one bottom timer. No big deal to revert back to tables, especially for the tech dives, as more planning goes into the dives.

You get the third DC. Hubby cuts tables or simply surfaces on any given hardware (DC) failure....

OP -- IN you scenario, I'd probably end up doing one of several things:

a. Continue diving since I'm doing "minimum deco" anyway -- first stop at half my max depth and then 1 minute stops to the surface with bottom time based on my average depth. Minimum of 60 minute S.I. and then use two minute, as opposed to one minute, stops.

b. Continue diving since I also carry redundant computers (well, actually, I carry three computers, two of which are in guage mode but....). [Note, carrying a redundant computer just makes sense even if it is a very inexpensive one that doesn't have any bells and whistles.]

c. If none of the above, honestly, I'd continue diving, being conservative and NOT pushing NDLs, by using my buddy's computer. GASP! HORRORS! Yes, I know, I'm gonna die if I do this. Or maybe not really die from doing this. As long as we stay pretty much together (which we do) the data from the computer is going to be pretty close to what I did. Since decompression is so imprecise, what, in fact, difference does it make!

Depth gauge, stopwatch, and tables. I guess the only question would be which tables to use? I have a bunch of them in the pocket of my logbook.

Use the BSAC one, Itll give you the most bottomn time :p

Ahhhh - now I see what you were getting at. I agree. I was thinking he was going back to a log book that had HIS dive info in it. Using the wrong data should yield the wrong result. :thumb:

I'm a diver on a budget so coughing up $200 for a back up computer was a big decision. My husband says he'd take my dive log and compute the pressure groups and keep diving. I didn't feel that was safe and would have stayed out for 18 hours.

Reading all your comments convinced me it was important enough to budget for the back up computer. I only wish my husband would get one too!

Once you've beben diving 15-20 years, you'll end up with a crappy, old one or two to use as a spare. My husband and I both have a couple of extras we take along, either in a pocket or on our wrists as spares. They may not have the features we want but they work as a backup in a bind. At least, if we're on a dream trip in a place like Galapegos, where the boat requires that you have a computer or don't dive, we have a backup just in case.

:rofl3: No prob, surface carefully and use any table that strikes your fancy. :rofl3:

lol. More a concern of repetitive dives than anything else!

When I add a wrist slate to my setup, the last page will be some scrawled down with max time @ depth / deco obligations.
