So there is always talk about bail-out tanks, spare airs blah blah etc etc. For solo divers and for buddy divers.

So I ask you those o Gods of Scuba, Why can't I just take an extra tank with me with no reg on it and if im OOA just open the tank and little and sip the air untill i get to the surface. I feel like I could make a good funnel over the valve with my hand between my mouth. I could take two breaths close the tank exhale and ascend slowly then open tank take another two breaths and continue the cycle. Do I need a whole nother reg set??? Burst my bubble??

1 you screw up and get too much pressure your dead...2 watch the haters on breathing from a tire..it's harder than you think

You could probably even do with no regulator on your primary tank. But life would be much easier with a regulator on each tank. Breathing from a bare valve is a skill that does not seem to be taught much any more.

Or you could just borrow Bob's donkey.

Why would you want to? Seriously? If you're going to go through the hassle of taking another tank, put a reg on it. I don't understand what you're saving yourself by not putting a reg on the tank. You can get a good reg used for $200 or less. Why run the risks and add all the complexity by bringing another tank without a reg?

If you have an OOA situation, your stress level is going to go up, which normally increases heart rate and degrades fine motor skills. Is that really the time that you want to be manually controlling a valve and sipping air from a tank? My guess is no.

If you're going to go to the trouble of taking another tank, then you may as well take the appropriate gear to use it correctly.

Or better still, find a good buddy and invest in some good training to provide you alternatives to that situation in the first place.

Sorta like paying to take a hooker to church?

Why cannot you, you can I was doing that in the pool. But you will be hell taskloaded with that solition and you will have to soak your valve after each dive and service it quite often as you will still get deposits there after every dive.

Tanks and regs go together why bother seperating them?

you can do that

buuuuuuuuut

just because you can does not mean that you should

put a regulator on it, they are not that expensive when you total in how much diving costs in the long run......
