Any suggestions for finding bathymetric maps/data for a given set of latitude and longitude coordinates near Taiwan?

I want to get some Taiwanese and expat tech divers together to go and find some WWII wrecks, but first I'd need to know whether they're likely to be within diveable depths, and if so what mixes would be best.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Wow ... after nearly two months of stone cold silence in this forum, we have here an intriguing request, TW divers!

Your proposed endeavor is something I can get behind, Makhno (btw, thanks for the lead on those regs!)

Initial reading on the subject leads me to believe that both the National Center for Ocean Research in Taiwan and the Institute of Oceanography at NTU would be the people to produce the stuff that interests you. I've pulled down some documents from the web that (albeit dated) commonly reference studies conducted and published that should prove useful.

I'm going to cross-reference these documents in detail and see what comes up ... waters are choppy up here this weekend, so it'll give me something to do, and maybe I'll even go around and ask some questions uptown on Monday.

Just some more initial searching ... it seems as though Admiralty charts are dated and scarce for the region, but China Hydrographic Services keep theirs updated. Only 7 or 8 of a set of 36 charts would likely be of any use to you.

Thanks, Currier, I've already poked around some on that website and it appears that I'd need to purchase the charts to get anything close to the info I need. I'm hoping to get that info for free if possible.

I'll check out the other links you gave me when I've got some time. Also, in the wreck forum someone suggested that NOAA (the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) might have data online. I'll look into that too.

Makhno - The DM (an Yilan based guy) we employed to accompany us to N/E coast Turtle Island last year was telling us there was a dive boat from Suao, which if we arranged he could take us to some rarely dived wrecks over on the East coast ?

Currier - do you still have the numbers I sent you some weeks back, specifically the dive guide, rather than the boat owner ?

Cheers

Wantonmien, Currier: Thank you both a lot. Don't know if I'll get to it this summer but the water up north stays reasonably warm into the autumn, doesn't it?

Wantonmien, on a personal note: Congratulations! and keep in touch, ok?

and while I was diving in Kending this weekend, another helpful Scubaboard member posted these useful links in the wreck forum. Thanks again to Serge Tao for that.
