cinemajunkie, the tattoo you propopse will be offensive to a number of people. A lot of people don't like tattoos to begin with. Some will find your proposed design revolting and think that you are disgusting for having such an image on your body. More will look at it and shake their heads, thinking you have poor judgment. In the long run, I would bet you would regret it.

Wait a few years and then decide. You can always get the tattoo later. You can't get it removed so easily in a few years.

Nah, no chance that would send a negative message about you or your judgement. No chance it would hurt you employment chances. Parents would love to have you train their kids. Any op would love to have you represent them. Any resort would clamor to have you down by the pool running DSDs. Plus, there's absolutely no chance you'd ever regret it. Go for it!

I'm sorry, did you mean to use the sarcasm font? :rofl3:

Well said. I would not dive with a person with such a picture.

Maybe you are not looking at this tattoo in the proper perspective?

Sure the gun shot to the head is a bad thing (possibly but we don't know the reasons), but the butterflys that are produced from it are things of natures beauty. I look at it as meaning that sometimes something less than desirable must be done to acheive the greater good.

I have a tattoo on my forearm that is a demon rider on a harley and he is kicking up an awful cloud of dust behind him. I then have a unicorn (representing all that is good) emerging from the cloud. The meaning is that good things can be brought to light from bad events. It is just a matter of what you want to concentrate on.

I would have no problem diving with a person just because of their particular tattoos, or lack of tattoos.

The old saying goes like this:
What is the difference between people with tattoos and people without?

People with tattoos don't care that you don't have any.

1... you can have the tat you want to hide on your back removed you know.
2.... tats of what you suggest don't go over well with some crowds.. have you considered the effect 20 or 30 yrs from now with the tat you are considering.. its something to think about.
3. a swim shirt is fine... most of the time.. but good lord is this the tat?

... well it def won't be like everyone elses... it's going to be batman... and the butterflies will be bats... and I have a really good, and professional artist designing the tat.

I'm not a tat person but to each their own. As an employer, there are too many tats out there to discriminate against them all. As long as it is tasteful and non offensive, I can live with that. That being said, if you were to come to me looking for a job with that tatoo and I saw it, 1: I'd never hire you, 2: if you had gotten hired before I saw it I'd have a nice chat explaining WHY you would be required to keep it covered at all time while you were on my time clock or representing my company in any manner.

If I'm a customer at a dive resort and you are assigned to assist me. Sorry charlie, that ain't gonna happen.

While the tatoo and your body is your business and you have every right to do anything you want with it. Your tat may have meaning to you, it also has a meaning and memories for me, and yes, I would discriminate against you because of it.

What some younger people are failing to realize is that choices have consequences. Sometimes good, other times bad. That kind of tattoo, where you will be dealing with the public, and at times, young children, would pretty much make me pass you over as far as hiring for a job, or paying money for services you could render.

...you can never loose them and nobady will ever steal them.

Yes, I have a lot of tattoos.

Well, not normally, but there have been some incidents in the past where some pretty sadistic people did steal tattoos. Obviously, the owners did not fare very well in their new career as a lampshade.

Placing tattoos where they can be easily concealed removes the risk of having controversial artwork.

I agree with the numerous people who have said it could cause issue in your upward mobility especially in higher end resorts. not sure your age or where you are in your career path, will you be ale to wear a rashguard and cover it if you choose? if so, then you can fly your colors when and where you choose. Think ten years from now or twenty will this art or message you wear still be something you believe in or support? tattoos are forever (or at least very hard to get rid of)

I'm surprised the younger generation isn't embracing the new technologies available for tattoos.

Like being invisible/different in UV light.
Magnetized ink.
Del-Sol inks - changes colors when exposed to sunlight or UV light.

Lastly, why not? Embedded Blutooth...
