I have eaten at Chilangos on 30th many, many times but I have never before had their tamales. Last night that is what we ordered and man, they were delicious. We had chicken mole filling. At 10 pesos each, these are a great deal. DH had 2 and I had one plus a chalupa (verde sauce) which I couldn't finish. All this plus a beer each for a grand total of 95 pesos. I will probably go back for more! I had been thinking of trying to make tamales one day at home but at this price, fuggedaboutit!

Hey Marg! I hear you tried to find me at BA... they tell me you left a number, but so far I haven't received it. :) Want to try for sunset happy hour at BA one evening this week?

As for the tamales - I totally agree. at 10 pesos, they're a steal of a deal! I had a "lesson" once, and then made some one day back in Canada, but for me to get my money's worth out of them, I'd have to charge about 25 dollars a piece. You might enjoy my blog post about the adventure!

chilangos food is excellent but what i like the most is eating family style with locals. travel for me is a learning experience in addition to fun and relaxation. places like chilangos have made my many years of wandering full of good memories.
btw, how many know what chilango means?

I do, but I wonder if you are referencing the eating style at Chilangos in Corpus Christi and not the one on 30th. There isn't much family style at the one on 30th. In fact I would be at a loss to describe its style. Big yellow square concrete room with cheap tables and chairs and a fat guy painted on the wall sort of defies "style".

Heh. Enjoyed your blog post. They are pretty labour intensive to say the least. I had a lesson a few years ago with friends on the island who own a B&B. It was a day long group effort with mucho cervezas drunk. Then we bashed on a piñata. All I can say is it is a good thing we were staying there and didn't have to drive or walk anywhere.

I left my message on an index card with the guy at the scuba shop (not Pony...the other guy). I will send you a PM with my cell # but how does Wed or Thurs work for you?

Chilangos is awesome. I'm making a map with my favorite places to eat in Coz, and you just reminded me of one more place that needs to be added. Great thread!

Maybe we could get a new thread started on recommended cheap places to Eat in Coz. The only rule (and since it IS Mexico we are talking about, more like a guideline) is that the bill can't exceed 100 pesos per person with drinks included! :D

Oh, yeah. Maybe my favorite place to eat on the island. If somebody could make those huaraches (the tortillas, not the shoes) and mole tamales in the states they could make a million!

How many drinks? :D

BTW, Marg, will you be on the island in mid May?

I knew someone would ask that question. For the sake of this exercise, let's just say you are diving tomorrow! And no, I don't PLAN to be here in May but you never know. I head back to Canada for the spring and summer but last spring was so wet and cold I was feeling like jumping back on a plane. This year I will if it is miserable again!
