One of these days, I'm going to come by and see you.

So tell me, when are ya'll going to start diving duties in the Aquarium? The last PM I got from you said that ya'll were working through a few issues?

Safe dives,

Cyp

Things move VERY slow around there, it took over 10 years for them to pull the trigger on doing the renovations.

we are still working on getting the tank certified from OSHA and then we also have to get some sort of certification from the AZA (American Zoo Association), then all of us divers will have to get some sort of OSHA certificaiton which includes a physical from what I understand.

Does this include any up close or behind the scenes interaction? I've been meaning to get the kiddo over there, we almost went last weekend.

No real "behind the scenes" stuff, but plenty of interaction, We have 2 touch tanks for the kids to touch and learn bout animals. The main TT has Horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs, anemones, sea stars, urchins, slipper lobsters and new stuff all the time.

the other touch tank is "stingray bay" where they can not only touch Cownose and Southern stingrays, but and feed them.

On Saturday we feed the piranha with an educational talk and on Sunday we feed the sharks.

Special things are going on all the time, last time I worked, Bob had our baby aligator (about 13") out and was letting the kids touch it and see it up close, so you never know.

OH! I forgot to make a plea for volunteers!

We are ALWAYS looking for new volunteers, you don't have to be a diver, you just have to have some free time. All we ask for it one shift a month, a morning or afternoon, but will take as much time as you can give.

As mentioned earlier, dive ops have not resumed yet, but I'm told they are working on it.

We currently work both the touch tanks and do whatever educating things the aquarists come up with, but mostly touch tank work at this time.

You can also work directly with the aquarists "back stage" doing whatever needs to be done, usually grunt work, but it is an opportunity to work directly with some of the animals on occaision. A lot of this type of volunteering is done during the week, if you have such time.

Also, if you have a teenager that is interested, we have a youth volunteer program.

I think you have to be at least 14, maybe 12, but for a kid interested in sealife it's a great way to get some "public service" on that college app. or just spend some time with sea critters!!! :D

anyone interested please PM me and I will send you an e-mail to contact someone or just go to the website and click on "volunteers" under the 'General Information' drop-down menu.
