On a recent dive, my Suunto D4 (in the most conservative setting) mandated 15' deco stop for me, while according to my buddy's computer he was OK to go w/o any deco stop. No problem with that - algorithms vary among computers, and u can even set your comp to more or less aggressive dive profiles settings. Also, the computer calculations are two levels more complex, taking into account the actual real dive while tables are only an approximation. And, if i decide to plan the dive based on tables then i just carry out my plan, with the computer being an "intelligent backup" of what i got on my slate.

However, for sake of planning, it would be nice to know at least what is my computer thinking, what she is going to tell me after i hv spent certain amount of time at certain depth, something similar when i look into tables and know how much time i have at each given depth.

I do not have the instruction manual with me right now, but i dont think i remember any tables or values being there. Thx!

There should be an NDL table in the manual; you can download it from the Suunto or Aqualung sites

Assuming you stayed within NDLs, the reason for the madatory stop was probably exceeding your ascent rate

The D4 has a dive plan function for this purpose

Kaaralex, it's not tables so not as boat-friendly, but you could download Suunto Dive Manager. It lets you plan out detailed profiles.

Did you mean conservative or liberal setting? If you did what you typed (conservative) then I would clearly expect the 15' ss.

I can't even imagine setting a Suunto to be more conservative. At the "most conservative" setting, I'm surprised it even lets you get in the water.

Something like this?

With the (free) Basic version of divePAL you can plan a single dive, while with the FULL version you can plan a series of 3 dives. Both versions allow you to save - online - your dive plans
The FULL version is currently available only to beta testers, premium members and users taking our online classes. Let me know if you would like to be a beta tester.
Both versions can be downloaded here

DISCLAIMER: the deco algorithm used in divePAL is (our own variation of) the ZH-L16C algorightm and might be SUBSTANTIALLY DIFFERENT than the deco algorithm used in the D9.

which variations did you implement ? why not a pure Bulhmann ? is it possible to modify the factors of saturation/desaturation ? is DivePal knows Metrics ?

which variations did you implement ? ....
the core is Buhlmann ... with our own refinements resulting from 4 years working with it.

.... is DivePal knows Metrics ?
The engine under the hood IS in metric

so, maybe can i be a beta tester, if you agree.
a full time limited version is ok, to compare with other deco softwares i'm using.

Sure, let me know your userid with us and I will enable your account as a divePAL beta tester.

Thank You
