The JBL Sawed-Off Magnum XHD 53 Speargun or the JBL 38-Special XHD Speargun? I am planning to by a speargun for the first time and these two got my attention. I plan on using this mostly in the west florida reefs and such, and a bit in New Jersey waters. I would like to catch, i would say small-medium sized fish such as bluefish, groupers, jacks, and maybe a couple mackerals. I've been diving for 3 years, and have my advanced cert. And also i am 15 years old at 5'11" if that counts. ( i don't need a florida or new jersey fishing license till im 16 ). Which gun would you suggest?

thought about for awhile, the sawed off would be a good choice for you, like the mako, there are many other choices, so do reseach the spearo's in your area.

Can you guys recommend a specific speargun that is 300$ or less that is close to the details listed on top.
Thanks

ALSO....The JBL 38-Special XHD Speargun does not have a flotation, compared to the other JBL XHD series....can someone tell me what is a flotation on it and if i need it.

I would go witgh the Mako also. I have a JBL Woody 38 Special and it won't hold a candle to my Mako 70CM Euro gun and its in your price range.:eyebrow:

Hi, now from the recommendations, i think i would like to get a MAKO Oceanic Pro Railgun. Yet i need to customize it, and having a little bit of trouble with it, ( MAKO Oceanic Pro Railgun ). I do not no which option to choose for the band configuration. Which do yall people think is better, Single 20mm bands, Twin 16mm bands, or Thriple 14mm bands....i do not know whats the diffrence in each. And also i do not know which shaft type is better, a mini shark fin or a notched shaft....please help me with them.

Would mostly like to know which type of band is stronger/farther.

Call Dano at Makospearguns.com. He will help you make the right choice. I personally like the single 20MM band, but a lot depends on whether you can pull that or not and also what tension you have them put on it. I also personally like the shark fin because the shaft is not weakened by the notch, but that's just my opinion.

Sharkfin is better - stronger.

I prefer the twin 16's - you can always choose to only load one - but then have the option of the power of two.

Call MAKO and ask for DANO. He helped me a few years ago with my choices -and then again this year when I bought more. BTW - check out their warranty - it cant be beat!

Dano built this 55cm Oceanic custom. I liked the length of my rebuilt JBL but wanted a better gun.
