Sam's Club on Cozumel?

Did I hear correct? Did a Sam's Club open up a few days ago? Where?

Wonder if they will have scuba gear and maybe batteries?

Its open!! My good friend stopped by and thought that there were of great things she could in the past not get on the island that she would have had to go to Playa for. She is thrilled it is open. Its way out in the hood.

Yeah, grand opening was on the 30th and I've already got my card. And, yes, many of the locals are very happy it's here because it gives them more variety than they previously had and will save them money in many cases. It seems apparent from the selection of goods that they are mainly going after the restaurant/hotel/resort market. There's also the new Bodega right next door which seems like a Mexican Wal-Mart but not as big.

Yes, those of us who live here are. There are things we can get now that we simply could not get before without taking an expensive and pain in the butt trip to the mainland for.
Yes on the batteries, no on the scuba gear - it's a small Sam's in comparrison to others.

I was excited to save $200+ on a set of tires for my shop truck - rather than take the trip to the mainland or buy them at the one and very over priced tire store here.

When the first Walmart opened in Mexico (Mexico City) it sold 2 years of inventory in as many weeks. The locals voted with their money. It has been some years ago that Sam's and Chedraui opened in Playa. Before then there was only the Super San Fransisco. A truly dismal place to shop. So yeah, the locals are happy they have access to quality goods and better prices.

Please remember most who live on the island were very happy the Sams Club opened. It saved them almost an entire day of traveling to Playa, sometimes having to pay more for their purchases to be delivered because they did not bring their car over on the ferry. The Sams is located well back in the hood and will not impact the the downtown, beach or other tourist areas only make the island much more livable for especially for those who have a business and find it very hard to get the products they need without spending a day off the island.

I just got a new washer there! Gotta have clean clothes...we leave more there each time we go down, what with the new baggage restrictions.
