Hi everyone

I will try my best to help you to get your dives out of your computer and from the Uemis online portal. I'll contact Ernst to see what could be done.

Sven
Needless to say, I'll buy your software the moment you are able to support the UEMIS Zurich computer.

Nice website, divelog, way better than what uemis has. Good luck on helping everyone.

Dive log has a forum also, new but if this fellow can make it happen, then he got a good thing going.

Laura,

I don't think they really did do everything they could have to not get to this point. I actually think that old, tired, outdated scuba practices is what also contributed to this.

UEMIS is/was a cutting edge computer. They sold to their dealers and consumers thru their online store. They had logging software that was strictly done online. A few months ago, they lost their Canadian Distributor for reasons we will not get in to. He did allow internet sales in the US, and sales were PLENTY. Especially when they ran a sale to the tune of about $1350 with transmitter. There was ZERO signs of anything negative at that point. We couldn't keep them in stock at that price point no matter how many we ordered!!

Shortly after that (losing Canadian Distributor), they banned all internet sales...and we were actually threatened, even though we were there number 1 dealer, because we sold their products online. Regardless of the fact we weren't told of the change in policy enforcement. This was also a big deal between us and them and the treatment of their largest dealer...

So, they kill their largest selling source (online in general not just us), they limit others that are online selling it. The same folks who helped get the name out and word about their computer. Which also actually drives people into their local shops, asking about the computer, which makes the local guy become a dealer and sell them locally....all helping UEMIS. So, you get rid of all that, which makes no sense in this day and age....and what do you really expect to happen? How many local shops do you see or hear about getting the word out? How many of you that bought one, heard about it online? Bought online? Who bought and heard about it locally? Did you do any research about it online? I bet so....

Now, let's also add in a US distributor....what do you think happens to the price? Another hand in the middle. The MSRP jumps from $1649.99 to $1999.99.......

They relied on the "Ol way" of doing things and got burnt. Evolve or disappear. Hopefully others are paying attention! This economy isn't one that will support old practices, and YOU, everyone here, won't support it either.

I hope Scubapro and the others read this post. Great points Laura.

Now the question is how misleading the latest trimix update was. Considering they closed 13 days after the update I find it highly unlikely that they were telling the truth about pending trimix update.

Wow, this was an good insight. I can tell that it was thanks to DRIS I bought the computer (from DRIS and I never got their t-shirt as promised ;) and suggested it to many in the past year. I was under the impression that UEMIS was a forward looking company in all regards but I guess I was wrong.

I don't understand why manufacturer that hedged their business (and their customers experience) on the online presence wouldn't allow online retailers to sell their products.

I can only think of one thing, they were positioning themselves for purchase and focusing all the energy on it instead of selling product and developing features. I've seen that before in some companies I've worked for and result is almost always the same.

What I don't understand is the lack of transparency on the UEMIS behalf. It took 9 (nine!) days to post the info on their web site. Even with the latest update they don't clearly state that company is actually dissolved. Why still hiding the truth?!?

You didn't get a shirt? Give me a couple weeks. We have been out for some time, and I have inventory in the screen printing area and can't screen anything right now. We are getting some pallet racking to make a mezzanine for more storage, upon which I can clear out that room and make some more shirts ;)

That's a weird practice some manufacturers have in North America. In Europe, you can buy almost anything from the same manufacturers online and benefit from the same warranties.

About the fate of UEMIS, there have been rumors of a high number of defective units. Maybe the pro here could tell us how the SDA behaved in terms of RMA compared to other brands. But I mainly see the price point as the big problem. Selling a dive computer with recreational specs over 1200 euros with few advertisement is to me a risky economical model especially in those days where people are struggling with other financial issues. About the future, the trimix update announcement was before the liquidation therefore maybe it was in development, maybe another business will go on with this in a near future.
