Hey there,

Well we got a great price on the flight from LAX, but now have an 8+ hour layover at IAH from 12:37am to 9:00am.

Is there anywhere to sleep at the airport? The whole laying on the floor at the gate and try to sleep thing just doesn't really work for me - too much of a snob I guess.

I could probably cash in some miles and get a room at the Marriott which I understand is 'inside' the airport.

Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

The Continental President's Clubs open at 5:30AM so that won't do you much good even if you were a member.
which I understand is 'inside' the airport.
It is but it's in the center between the terminals - look it up on Google Maps.
Our Houston airport hotel offers free shuttle service to/from airport via underground tram

Might check to see if they have day room rates also - some Airport Marriott's do.

Use Kayak.com to get a room. Lots of cheap hotels with shuttles. Even if you get only a few hours sleep and a shower, it beats the terminal.

A cheap hotel in Houston can be a scary thought. I could probably sleep better in the terminal.

I slept on the floor at DFW airport once 20 years ago. Nearly killed me. Hotels nearby start at $40 - bargain!

Be careful about your bags. You might have to retrieve them for the layover...?

Of course, the airport Marriott would be the best bet as you won't have shuttle time and will have more sleep time. I have also stayed at the Comfort Suites on JFK, just a shuttle away, right outside of the airport, clean & comfortable.

Our original flight was similar (didn't have much choice using miles), but at least we were flying out on the later flight. When the canceled the second flight and put us on the early one, I changed our reservation so we'd get into Houston at 7:30 pm instead of 11:50 pm. Getting in that late, only to have to wake up very early, would mean little or no sleep for me and I might as well have taken a red-eye (and if I were to take a red-eye, I might as well have flown to Bonaire). Now we can get to our hotel while they still have dinner available, then get at least 5-6 hours of shut eye before heading back in the morning for the 9:30 flight. I've slept through many a first day of vacation being I was so tired after getting there to do anything else.
