Re: Tarponchick's comments about the large fish--There were some 5 to 10 pounders, mostly hog and yellow snapper, under the coral in the holes. You could see them out in the open as you descend, but as soon as you got within 20 or 30 feet, they ran in the holes. I used to spearfish years ago, and that is the way they act when their buddies have been shot. They learn really quick.

As for fishing, lines were all over the place and I counted maybe 12 rebar anchors stuck in the rocks.

Last time I was down there every one we dove with saw a 6ft Ray on every dive, the whole week!

We saw large snappers couple of times this december too--probably, dog or cubera. Won't let us get close by to ID them more precisely. Schoolmasters of 1-1.5 ft size were probably the most abunant larger size snappers around.

Stingrays were common, but rays do not count as "large fish" cause they are rays ;-)) Not a single nurse shark, but I am already beginning to forget when was the last time I saw one...Bahamas'08?

I am sure Sunshine has listed all the restaurants around Westpunt area. What I am asking for is "do you like any", " are they worth the money" etc. Looking for something like a mini review. I gave my 2 cents. maybe there really aren't any worth mentioning unlike Bonaire. Don't have any on my radar for my next trip and that's fine.

I have eaten at the following: (In order of cost)

Jaanchies-inexpensive, set menu, food is okay, not great

Sol Food- inexpensive- food is good, pizzas are nice as is the bread, nice setting, limited nights open

Landhuis Misje- more upscale, a little more toward fine dining, nice setting, food can be very good, greater selection than the above

Lodge Kura Hulanda- more toward fine dining, food is good to very good, pricier than
the others, very good breakfast

You have to go say Hello! to Sunshine and David at Sol Food

Ladhuis Misje for the nights Sol Food is not open

Then mix in Jaanchies and the Lodge to fill out your time.

I have not been to Rancho Sobrino, but intend to on our next trip

Hope that helps

(Don't place too much emphasis on good, very good and great for quality of food. I am a picky eater as is my family and we enjoy the restaurants listed. Some may be great to you and I call them good. Don't fret over that.)

Ummmmm, I am guessing that the 6 foot "Ray" was the guy in the picture.........;)

That'd be the "R" in RJP...
