What don't you like about catfish?

I love 'em ... especially with hushpuppies ... :D

Lol! I only like to eat a few select fish. I used to hate it when my Dad caught a catfish when I was a kid. I thought they were gross!!!! Never got over that I guess. But, I'm starting too. Charlie was pretty friendly.

Ya night dives are great. It really makes it nice when you have a good light. My first night dive was in a lake by my house. I had dove the lake many times in the day and therfore knew how many gators were in it. It was a little nerve wracking for me but I got over it and I loved it. For some reason the animal life is always different at night.

I then did a night dive at Lauderdale by the sea in Ft.Lauderdale, Fl It was sweet as well the ocean life is way different at night. I liked it a lot better then the lake because of the VIZ it was 50+ft. What I thought was even cooler is I gave a back up light to a buddy and I had mine well my backup flooded and my Primary's batteries went dead (1hr20min dive @10-15ft) so we were swimming along the reef in darkness but we had the moon to help. It was amazing. Now we did dive the same part of the reef 2 times that day so we knew the land scape very well.

Here's some things you'll see on a night dive that you're unlikely to see in the daytime ...

Parrot fish sleeping in a cocoon ...

One of my all-time favorite times to dive is very early in the morning ... getting in the water while it's still dark and watching how the "shifts" change as night turns to dawn turns to daylight. You get out of the water in a completely different environment than the one you went in with ...

Wow! You lost your light! That's crazy, but so cool the moon was bright enough you were able to see! That is so super neat! And aligators?????? You were seriously diving with gators?!?!?!?!? :fear:

NWGratefulDiver: Holy cow your pictures are so BEAUTIFUL!!!!! :) I love it so much! I love the colors of the mandrian fish. And the octopus is amazing!

What is the deal with that cocoon??? I have never seen anything like that or heard of it either. What is it made from?

The parrot fish creates his own "sleeping bag" out of mucus. It masks his scent and gives him some tactile protection ... reducing the risk of being turned into a Happy Meal while he's sleeping ...

That is the coolest thing ever!!!! Man, I want to come hang out with you for a day...or two or three? :) You have the best pictures, and know so much about the creatures!

Someday, Jeni, I'm going to make another one of the Scubaboard trips to someplace like Bonaire ... you should sign up. Not only will you get to dive a lot and learn a lot, but you'll meet some of the nicest people ever ...

I really really want to! I would love to make it to Cozumel this year, but I know I just can't make it happen with all I need to do on my new house. But, I'm hoping maybe the next trip.
