Hey there PPD subscribers! Does anyone know the best way to travel between Dumaguete and Moalboal?

I am hearing about ferries to Liloan from Simbulan... buses to Cebu via Bato? Has anyone travelled between these locations recently that can enlighten me? I will actually be travelling from Apo Island on December 30 and want to make it as simple and cost efficient as possible! (Yes, an oxymoron if ever there was one!) Please help!:blinking:

Hi Amy,
The easiest(cheap) way to get from APO to Moalboal is once you arrive back in Malatapay(pier) walk a half Kilometer down to the National Highway and flag down the next Ceres Bus going to Dumaguette. Get off at the Ceres Terminal and take the next bus marked Cebu. Take that bus to Bato on the Island of Cebu and get off the bus once you arrive on Cebu. Walk out to the National Road go across the street and take the next Ceres bus marked Cebu. Just to make sure you dont take the wrong bus just ask the Conductor when the bus stops whether he is going by Moalboal.

The entire trip from Malatapay to Moalboal should be less than 300P. Once you get to Moalboal you will need to take a Trike from town to the resort you will be staying at and you will need to negotiate the fee with the Tricycle Driver. Have you decided on a resort yet?

Cheers,
Roger

Just not fast.:D I have taken the bus from Apo Island/Dumaguette to Cebu City and boy does it take time - 6+ hours. I do recommend getting on an air conditioned bus if it is available/option as due to the higher cost fewer people riding = fewer stops and more time savings. Is there an aircon bus running on the Moalboal route? After my last visit to Apo Island I opted for thier transfer to Dumaguette and they drove me all the way to the ferry for Cebu Island - big time saver. Get going as early as you can in the morning too.

Currently there are no Aircon Buses going to Moalboal from Bato, the ferry I mention is run by Maayo shipping and it leaves from Tampi. You can see pictures of the ferry at

Photos of boats, ferries, and ships in the Philippines. .

As usual if you have any ?????'s feel free to PM me. I am currently in the states and will return to Moalboal on the 30th of Oct.

Cheers

Cheers Guys... :D most informative! I'll try to get the ride direct to Dumaguete pier from Apo as you recommend jbb. I am led to believe, Mr Rogersea, and please let me know if I am wrong, that there are a number of Ceres buses to Cebu City that travel via different routes and I need to find the one that is going via Moalboal - not Bato?

Just wanted to add that I took a different ferry across on my last trip - heck I don't even know from where to where exactly but there was a nice ac bus waiting on the other side (Cebu Island) that took us all the way to Cebu City. Really it wasn't that much faster than the non-ac but a little more comfortable. I did miss the ding ding ding of the attendant's finger ring on the steel hand pole requesting the bus driver to stop for passengers. The other plus side is a good high view of the passing scenery but be careful which side you sit on - will it be scenery (ocean view), the sun burning your arm or both?

Ms. AmyKB, you are correct it is really quite easy, the bus you will take from Dumaguette to the Island of Cebu will continue on to Cebu City, so you must get off that bus. Then you cross the street and take the bus which will take you to Moalboal. The only reason I suggest asking the conductor is I am aware of some folks who have gotten turned around(confused) and gotten back on a bus headed the wrong way. I am sure that wont be you:):).. Did you choose a resort yet?

Cheers,
Roger

Rogersea, I'll be going to MoalBoal on Nov 4. :)
Whats d best shortest transfer fr airport to Savedra?

Evie, Savedra runs their own shuttle which is relatively cheap(r u staying and diving w/Savedra?).

But if I am trying to save $$, I would go from Airport via Taxi to the Citi-link Terminal(V-hire) and catch an Airconditioned V-hire(Van) to Moalboal(100P). They run all day up to around 10PM. Once you get to Moalboal I recommend getting off at the Church Parking Lot, Instead of the bus stop that way you miss the hoard of Trike Drivers descending on you. Then you can walk over and negotiate with them with out all the hassle. How many are in your Party?

Depending on when your traveling the best option between Cebu City and Moalboal is the once a day Air-conditioned Bus. It departs Moalboal around 7:15AM and makes its return trip at 2:00PM However to ensure you have a seat you must be there by around 1:20. This is a very nice small bus. Unfortunatly it only runs once a day. The Fare is 120(P). To take advantage of this bus you take taxi from airport to the Librando Bus Terminal.....

Another option is to ride a non A/C Ceres bus from the South Terminal to Moalboal (@100P)

Final Option is to Hire a private car which is anywhere from 1800P and up..

Last note: Savedra Dive Center and Resort are in Panagsama, but there is also an area called Savedra so if you end up taking a private car make sure they take you to Panagsama. Same advice apply's when your speaking to the Tricycle Drivers just make sure you say tell them Panagsama first, then Savedra Resort or Dive Center.

Cheers,
Roger
