I've traveled to Utila many times through the years. I'm headed back very soon but will probably stay overnight in La Ceiba. I'm not very familiar with this town and would appreciate any good advice of where to stay or NOT to stay. Thanks

I like the Hotel Paris, in the center, costs about $30 a room. There's 24 hr reception, security wireless and a pool bar.

Regards,
Andy

We spent one night in the little pink motel right by the port. Cheaper than dirt, no food, no phone, no service, nobody speaks English, razor wire all around the place. Fine with us, but most people would probably miss the TV.

IIRC, we just had the taxi driver take us to a local cheap hotel that we found in our Lonely Planet Guide. We did not need anything special just a place to crash for night. It was nice enough we stayed there on the way back as well. They did serve breakfast for cheap as well.

I just returned froma trip to Utila and stayed @ Rainbow Village which was great. Barbara, the proprietor, took care of everything from arranging a taxi to pick us up from the airport/bus terminal, taking us to the ferry dock in the morning, dinner and breakfast at the hotel, and all of this was just one convenient bill. She really went out of her way to make this part of our trip easy and she did all this when we were only staying one night, just great service, and the accomodations and facilities were exceptionally nice. <http://hotel-rainbow-village.com/>

We second Rainbow Village. We toured la Ceiba and was amazed at how dumpy and scary it was there. Barbed wire or broken glass cemented on the walls. Gates on the doors and windows. But, Rainbow Village is like a paradise inside it's own compound walls. Barbara goes above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay. The food was very good, prices very reasonable and service was top notch. But, what do expect from a German! Nothing but good things to say about Rainbow Village and Barbara. Highly recommended.

About a 45 minute ride out of La Cieba, but well worth it, is Omega. It is up into the mountains. We paid $90 for an absolutely breathtaking room with a view of the rain forest and water falls. Food was excpetional as well. Not sure if you have the time available, but it is most definitely a place you'll fall in love with and be thankful you went to see.

I've been living in The Bay Islands for the last two years. I run an air charter operation and was originally based on Guanaja but for the last 16 months based on Utila. When I overnite in La Ceiba I always stay at the Hotel Gran Paris in the center of town. The food is excellent, the location convenient and the people are friendly. You didn't mention if you wre looking to stay just for the night or for an extended stay. You can check out our web site for additional information at www.guanajaair and then dot com.
