looks cool
pain in the ass, but cool

We're going back but ultralight. We could have gotten where we turned on ~10cf of gas (if we had known the way). The only way to move the weight around in the actual cave is sidemount so probably use sidemount 40s or 80s to start then possibly hp100s later. Deco is a bit of a scary proposition given how far back you are (scrambling/caving-wise) and how cold it is.

Its Canada not NY :D

In NY it'd be an illegal "West Virginia" import "Nine" with the numbers filed off ...

What I really meant though, was that there AFAIK are areas where hunting regulations are very strictly enforced to the point that shooting a bear out of season - even in self defense - may get you into legal trouble ... if you're caught that is. I may be thinking of US State and National parks though.

how deep is it? think i saw a 70 bottle?

It goes deep (>160ft) beyond where we were able to get our backmount/manifolded doubles. We hauled in the deco & stage bottles hoping to be able to push that but it didn't happen. Which is why they are riding like they are full. What we did was max 31ft.

We're going back with tanks we can winch & haul over the dry sections.

I push as far as I can in BM 130's then switch to LP85's side mounted. Not sure how much climbing you want to do that far from emergency medical assistance. I know the OCDA has adopted this plan as well, and is currently using a razor clone to push smaller areas of the cave where they're not getting on doubles or RB80s.

Hope lamont doesn't ban me from this forum for suggesting that!

Those on OC are skipping backmounts since we can get to the end of backmount territory on <15cf of gas. We can winch & lower sidemount singles past the dry sections without bending/breaking manifolds.

KMD is looking at the Razor because he's not interested in big tanks & deco this far from "home" and in 44f water. And that rig is sweet for his normal MX diving. I am thinking about an armadillo with hp100s and a bottom stage with a max depth of 200ft and max ~45mins of deco on 50% & 100% in Al40s. If I decide not to do any deeper diving then just 2 al80s. Nadwidny has a Kiss and probably bring a bunch of 40s and one or two 80s as bailout. Regardless, manifolded doubles aren't making it past Never Never Land.

Its really not a backmount cave even though its big enough for them to fit.

FYI, the bear population in that area of the island is approximately 7 bears per square kilometre. In that region alone I counted 42 bears in one day while travelling those back roads. The bear density is probably the highest of anywhere in BC. That valley also supports a substantial population of Roosevelt elk and lots and lots of cougars. Pretty beautiful country isn't it? :)

Thanks Guy, that should keep the tourists away from our caves! That was a joke. :D

I have to say that if I’m being rushed by a bear or a cat (especially with doubles on my back), the legal ramifications would be the last things on my mind. The shotgun would likely be the first.

Funny you guys should mention that. A good Albertan should never be without a gun rack and I've got my eye on this great little pump shotgun that is made for people who don't think that bear spray is enough.

I hear you; a defender shotgun is on my wish list too. Bear spray seems like a hope and prayer to me.

Carrying all that dive gear and a gun seems a weee bit unrealistic- although they do it in FL :D
