Im bringing my boat on vacation to marco island with my family and was wondering if anyone had any info on diving or snorkling in the area. I would love to dive with large Goliath groupers.
Thanksyou

I am thinking the Jewfish are a good distance out on that part of the coast.

Good luck.

Chug
Still calls them Jewfish, and my pal the Rabbi said it was OK.

As I know it, the Giant Grouper, or Jewfish, are more prevalent in the Keys. They were many in the Dry Tortugas. Protected in the state of Florida. That's quite a ride from Marco Island.

For a good dinner topside in Marco, visit the Snook Inn. You won't be disappointed.

Pick any wreck or artificial reef in Collier County close in or far out and you will be greeted with several to many large goliaths. We probably have the most in the state. Just be ready to do it in low vis conditions - on most days.

Not sure when you're visiting but charters in the Marco area are basically nonexistent. Your best bet is to drive about 2 hours to the east coast for your diving, especially if you want to see jewfish.

I spoke with the DM on UW Explorer in Boynton Beach today and the jewfish aggregation is in full swing with ~60 jewfish spotted on the wreck of the Castor today :)
