Thought I would post this on a separate thread since it took me so long to get it done. Went to the Galapagos Islands in June 2010. Dove off of the liveaboard Deep Blue. I would highly recommend this yacht to anyone considering a Galapagos liveaboard. The boat, crew, food, and diving were all superb! This was also my first attempt at using iMovie on a MAC.

I'll be there in just about a month so thanks for the teaser! Very nice video.

I also really enjoy all the whale shark videos, but have a question. Why is there always that one guy who damn near swims into them? What, he couldn't see a 40ft fish? You get a nice pan, the shark goes gracefully by and off into the distance and then there's this guy doing somersaults and sculling his hands like he's conducting an orchestra trying not to T-bone the thing. (sorry for the rant).

Nobody touched the sharks....we were all very aware not to let that happen. But I am not sure what the deal was with that guy. He just wanted to swim close to the shark and get in the pictures I guess. He certainly didn't bother the shark....those guys just always kept the same heading and pace....they were amazing to watch.

I hope you see as much sea life as we did on our trip. It is literally sensory overload..sometimes it was hard to decide what to watch. What liveaboard will you be on, or are you doing land based dives?

Thanks for the post. I enjoyed the video - good job. Looks like a lifetime of memories in one trip.
Did you arrange the travel yourself, or did you let an agency put it together for you?

Actually I have a buddy that rented the whole boat two years in advance. We filled the boat with just divers from our group, which made things much nicer. He made all the arrangements except for my flight. We had a GREAT experience with the Deep Blue folks. They met us at the airport in Guayquil, Ecuador and literally took care of us from that point on....I strongly recommend them.

We are on the Aggressor II Sept 2-9. Really looking forward to it, and every video like yours just makes it harder to wait.

I mentioned the guy in your video because I swear there is one guy like that in almost every whale shark video I've seen lately. Always not quite touching them but also always looking like they ended up closer than they expected.

Thanks again for the video. What system are you using, and did you have lights?

I hope your trip will exceed your expectations like my trip did. I would recommend the Galapagos to any diver...of course people need to explore what the best time of the year is to dive it. We had some people on our trip who had dove the Galapagos in previous years. They said our trip was a whole new experience. They went during an El Nino year and saw very little sea life....timing is everything.

My camera is much better at pictures then video. Some of the clearest whale shark clips were taken by our DM's video camera. The fish that were in shallower water when the sun was out of course made the best video. I use a Canon G10 with Ikelite case and strobes. The G10 isn't known for great video....my Photobucket site has some of the pictures. I still have a lot more pictures to post on my site.
