Can anyone tell me if the lockers at casino point will hold a rolling bag that's big enought to hold all of my diving gear? We have a hotel room, but cannot check in until 3 and would like to get a couple of dives in that morning. Thanks...

I don't know where you're staying, but the one and only time I've been to Casino Point / Catalina Island, the hotel had a small storage room off the lobby and allowed us to store our luggage in there while we dove. We left our dive gear at the benches near the stairs at Casino Point and no one touched them.

Welcome to the board. :)

I don't think they are but I've never actually used them, just walked by them. if you post this question of the So Cal section of the California Kelp Divers forum in the Regional Section I'm sure you'll get a definative answer. Best bet would probably be make your morning dives then take your bags to the hotel for storage prior to check in.

There are large lockers and small lockers. The large lockers will hold a ton of gear (6 cylinders and several weight bags) but I'm not sure the door is large enough to get a typical roller bag inside. It sounds like you're planning to dive, go check in at 3, and then dive some more? Here are a few options.

1. One person watches the gear while the other goes and checks in.
2. Ask some responsible looking diver set up near you to keep an eye on your gear for the half hour it will take to go check in.
3. Set your bag near the air trailer and ask the staff to keep an eye on it. This may work better if you're renting a cylinder from them!
4. Lock your all of your heavy and/or wet gear in a large locker and roll the bag with the light stuff along with you.

Theft is always a possibility, but I leave a lot of gear on the ground at the park while I get food, fill tanks, use the restroom, or whatever. I haven't lost anything yet.

I don't *think* the lockers would fit the gear. Some are large, but the door isn't.

That said, I've left many, many thousands of dollars worth of gear lying around there without issue. Seems to be what most do. Personally, I wouldn't worry to much about it.

That said, why not check with the hotel if they have a spot your could store some stuff until check-in?

Like others have already stated....leave valuables in the lockers if you must.(half of them don't work) I have left gear around hours during the day as most of us here that dive the park regularly do with no issues. Most hotels in town will let you store luggage before and after checking in. Where are you staying? And what part of California you from? When will be there so maybe one of us will say howdy in person? Enjoy your time at Catalina.

I find myself in this exact situation every time I travel to Catalina (Avalon). We always head straight from the ferry landing to Casino Point to begin diving right away. We simply empty the roller bag of its contents into a trash bag...and lock up the trash bag (with all of our valuables) in a locker. The inside of some lockers can be kind of yucky, so the trash bag provides some protection. I leave the roller bag out on our tarp topside during dives. I've never had a problem with theft at Casino Point.

Alternatively, you could swing by your hotel and stash your roller bag in their baggage room before check-in. Most hotels will provide this service for their guests.

Have fun on your trip!

good information! We are looking at doing the same thing one weekend this fall. Is there a SB recommended hotel, fairly cheap and near Casino Pt? We don't need fancy, we just want a warm bed and bathroom/shower after diving. :D

So does the King Neptune boat go out every day on weekends? We are looking at doing boat diving and shore diving both.
