I guess I am in the minority, I still prefer buying my gear from an LDS. I do however use scubatoys and leisurepro for research.

Scubatoys, Scuba.com, Divers Direct, Leisure Pro, Divers Supply, Dive Right In Scuba, 123 Scuba.com, Cave Adventurers--------many many of them(I know I'm missing a lot).......

I do this whenever possible, and frankly, with the exception of a weight mold, I have bought everything from my LDS. I felt they gave me a good price for what I was buying. I could have gotten cheaper equipment online, but not the same stuff as I got. I wouldnt feel bad about buying from many of the online places if they were actually a dive shop. Leisure pro, while a 'real' store IMO, isnt a 'dive shop' Maybe I'm wrong. I know they must be under the same roof with adorama photo store also since my weight mold was wrapped in adorama bubble filling :D. I will probably throw some cash to scubatoys at some point, but so far my LDS's have been doing very well on pricing. I even got a tank recently. scuba toys was 150, but I think they charge you $20 for a tank shipping, so that makes it 170, plus I got the first fill 'free' with the tank of course so that's $6 or so.. So scubatoys was going to be $176ish. They wanted $199 at the LDS, so I will give the local store the $20 almost every time. Granted I had to pay tax here, and wouldnt have thru scubatoys, but I'm supposed to pay tax on purchases made online with my yearly state tax return. I'm sure most people dont, but technically I would have owed tax on that also.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Dragon Down - Dive Addicts is the LDS I use, it's only a couple minutes from my house. Great shop. I always rent my gear there and am taking a specialty class from them right now. I want to look online to compare prices when researching gear. I'll still buy local if the price is fairly close but if something is a lot cheaper online I'll buy it online. I was going to buy gear a year ago but decided to wait since I wanted to be more knowledgeable. Hopefully I'll be able to start picking up a piece here and there so I won't have to rent anymore.

Over the last five years I have bought a lot of gear from Dive Gear Express. Their service has been exceptional to the extent that I regard them as my LDS (even though they are over 5000miles away!!!)

What are some good websites that sell new diving gear?

If you want Oceanic or Dive-rite, my prices won't be beat. And unlike LeisurePro, I can offer mine sales with full factory warranty.

Actually, if you go look at the lines that Leisure Pro reps now, most of their lines come with "full manufacturer warranty" as they are "Authorized Dealers" for most of the lines they rep.

In the past couple years they've become authorized dealers for more and more lines.

About the only lines they aren't authorized dealers for is Aqualung/Apex and Scubapro. (I'm sure some other brand too that someone else will point out.)

Directly on Dive-rite's website and Oceanic's website, it specifically names Leisurepro as NOT AN AUTHORIZED dealer, and as such cannot offer you the lifetime warranties on your regulator gear purchases.

If you spend money, I think you should get the lifetime warranties.

Directly from DR website.... Basically same thing from Oceanic's website.

Leisure Pro Warning
TextLeisure Pro is not an authorized Dive Rite dealer. Why should this matter? For two reasons: Quality and Service.

Dive Rite products purchased from an authorized Dive Rite dealer are fully supported by Dive Rite. This means if you ever have a question about how to use the product, a concern about quality or a warranty claim, Dive Rite will stand behind the product and make sure you get the service you need. We are able to do this because we know that products sold to our authorized dealers have gone through our rigid quality control process and meet the high standards we expect. We are also confident that the product is new and/or currently in production.

Dive Rite product sold through Leisure Pro (or any non-authorized Dive Rite dealer for that matter) is almost always old, discontinued product that was purchased from a desperate dive shop going out of business. The product is second-hand; and there are no guarantees that the product has not been used or that it is still in dive-quality condition. This means the buyer is purchasing an inferior product that may have service issues right out-of-the-box. In addition, the product may be so old that the time limit on our warranty has expired. Just look at the pictures of Dive Rite product on the Leisure Pro website and compare them to the pictures on our website. There is no comparison!

If a Dive Rite product purchased from Leisure Pro does happen to be from our current model inventory, then Leisure Pro has found an authorized Dive Rite dealer willing to cut a deal and divert their order into Leisure Pro's hands. Dive Rite has a strict agreement with our authorized dealers that if they are found to be diverting product, we will end our partnership and refuse any future shipments.

Divers should be aware that Dive Rite serializes all dive gear considered life support equipment. Specifically, BCDs, regulators and computers. These serial numbers help us contact customers in the event we need to communicate a product concern, service need or recall. Leisure Pro cuts these serial numbers out of our product in an attempt to limit our ability to track the authorized dealer who initially purchased the equipment. This means the consumer is left without a serialized product for registration purposes and may not be included in any communication, such as a recall, that may occur.

The phrase "buyer beware" could not be more appropriate when it comes to purchases from non-authorized Dive Rite dealers. While the price may seem like a great deal, you get what you pay for.

Sadly, we are contacted from time to time by a customer who has been burned by their Leisure Pro purchase. Don't let this happen to you. Click on the Where To Buy button located at the top of every product page in our ONLINE CATALOG or look through our list of AUTHORIZED DEALERS and choose a dealer you can trust.

Though it has been mentioned in one post, I did several boughts with Divers-supply. They have a good service and unbeatable prices. Also they have it's own brand Sea Elite. They are not manufacturers but they buy OEM products to an Est OEM manufacturer, as many 1st brand do.
Prices for Sea Elite are really cheap and good quality.
They also have a "real" shop, but I've never been there.
