Today an American male diver died diving at Cozumel. Firstly I want to convey my condolences to the family. Truly a terrible accident. Secondly to your daughter who was with him at the time of the accident, 'I am deeply deeply in pain knowing what you went through today. I have been lost to try and find words. I hope by putting this out before rumours start that you will find peace. God bless you.

Here is a bit of the accident.
Diver signaled low air, he was at approx 800psi and at approx. 40fsw. He was buddied with his daughter on her first ocean swim. He has approx. 3-400dives.
He started a normal accent, the other divers where in full view except one, a photographer. Apparently at approximately 30fsw distress happened and he took his daughters octo. and bolted to the surface. The divemaster witnessed this and took accent to aid. Another dive master stayed at depth with the other divers. At surface the diver was unconscious and the daughter was holding him. Cpr was performed on the boat and on the beach until the paramedics called it.
I was told lung over expansion was one of the fatal injuries, there could be more to his health not noted.
This is a short note on the event more detail will come out.
He was a pilot and I believe 55yrs old. His daughter is 17.
Please keep the family in your prayers and the divemaster who is devestated over this. Not to mention the dive shop owners who are beside themselves in grief.
Everyone on the boat said he seemed like a good diver and a really nice guy.
I was not on the boat. kevin

So sad. I will say a prayer for all of them.

Praying for peace to come to this whole family, DM, and dive op. Thank you Kevin for sharing what you knew before rumors start. My heart will be heavy today as we get back in the water. I'm soooo sorry to hear this news for them.....

First rule of SCUBA diving. Never hold your breath.

This type of thread sucks! My thoughts and prayers go out for all involved directly and indirectly. Thanks for the info Kevin.
