A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

Folks, the topic of theft in Bonaire has been beaten to death in here recently. You have all had more than adequate opportunities to voice your opinions on the matter and it has now degenerated into name calling, insults, debates over who said what, finger pointing, POV wars and insults.

It needs to stop and it needs to stop right now.

In order to assist you with your self control in posting the staff will now begin issuing forum bans from the ABC Islands forum for ANY more name calling, trolling, insults, finger pointing, etc. The bans will be for 5 days for the first offense and increase for additional offenses. Attempts to circumvent the bans by having others post for you or starting the topic up in another forum here may result in bans from Scubaboard.

From the TOS-

This is a friendly forum based on mutual respect.
Profane, racial, insulting or mean spirited language is simply not allowed here and this includes any sort of harassment or cyber bullying.
Trolling-
Exploiting the weaknesses of human nature or of an on-line community to upset people. ScubaBoard includes POV warriors, cranks, impolite users and disruptive behaviour in this definition.

The existing threads will be left for now, do not start new threads to address prior thefts (or lack of thefts). If something new develops that would be acceptable. Derailing other threads with this topic is also unacceptable.

Please consider this a cease fire order. :D

:thumb: That's what mods are for . . .

I, for one, have signed up for Bonaire next year. I admit I chose "Never been there but have been a vicitm:" :depressed:

I am looking forward to next year's trip, and expect nothing more than the standard precautions necessary in a third-world country.

I'm practicing for Bonaire by being in Mexico. :D

Can we get rid of the question "never been there..." its messing up the totals (though it is very informative of the type of people answering the poll)

Your poll is showing statiscally for every 10 visits to Bonaire you will be a victim of crime once.

Is that good or bad?

C'mon people. Didn't you hear the 800lb Gorilla?

Actually, there have been a (very) few threads we saw eye to eye on, other than this subject, but please do not tell anyone

So since you are now interpereting the results of this poll you obviously have adjusted the joke answers of which even you are one? On a mobile browser I am unable to see the poll but last I checked there was not a single person that had voted experiencing a crime. Other than the joke answer "never been but was robbed anyways".

So unless a lot of victims suddenly came forward, I would say you have interpereted these results as well as every other Bonaire crime statistic....which is to say, not well.

Currently 4 out of 67 responders have experienced crime at least once during a visit.

Actually, his numbers are very close, and at the time stated, pretty much dead on for this poll...

As of now, there are 67 respondents, of those, 4 have indicated they were victims of crime on Bonaire... two have been there 1-5 times and have been a victim of crime once, one has been there more than 5 times and been a victim once...

The one that catches me is maxguru... who reports they have been there more than 5 times and been a victim of crime multiple times, I would like to hear about this and why maxguru continues to visit Bonaire...
